Camp Oljato will be Sunday, July 22nd through Saturday, July 28th.   This is a favorite destination of Troop 33 and we return each year to this picturesque campsite on Huntington Lake in Lakeshore, CA in Fresno County.  The camp is about 240 miles away – a 5-6 hour drive in a chartered bus.  Oljato (pronounced ol-JAY-toe) is Pacific Skyline Council’s premier summer camp.  It offers complete aquatics on the beautiful lake, nature, handicrafts, and shooting sports areas.  It also has great food!

Here’s the link for more information:

Each year, Troop 33 reserves the Navajo Campsite which houses the roughly 50 members of Troop 33 who attend.  Days are spent working on merit badges such as woodcarving, mammal study, canoeing and swimming, and free time is usually filled with card games, ball games and trips to the Trading Post.  Meals are prepared by the amazing staff and served buffet style with plenty of options.  No one walks away hungry.  Sleeping arrangements include raised floor canvas tents that sleep 2.  Sleeping bags required, and sleeping pads strongly recommended.

Transportation is provided and covered by the fees.  Chartered bus will leave LAUMC early Sunday morning and return in the mid-afternoon on Saturday.  At Huntington Lake, the camp is only accessible by pontoon boats.

Note that Ojato also offers a family camp site.  More information on that can be found on the website shown above.

Sounds like fun, right?!?  It really is a wonderful opportunity to be immersed in boy scouts for a week.  The scouts forge strong connections while enjoying a week full of adventure.  They’ll arrive home smelly, dirty and with many stories to share.

The estimated cost will be around $475.  To sign up, please click here and complete the information.  Note that a deposit will be required in mid-February, then a second payment in mid-March, then a final payment on May 1st.

Please sign up quickly to reserve your spot!  This is a popular camp with only a limited number of spots available, and we fill to capacity each year.   Interested adults may plead their case to Scoutmaster in Charge.  Preference is given to uniformed adult leaders.

Questions?  No problem – just email/call or ask me at a meeting.  Look for the big Oljato poster and I’ll be standing close by.

Your faithful Oljato Coordinator,

Janet Kolstad

P.S. If you’re having trouble with the google docs, then just send me your first and last name, rank, and email address – I’ll add you to the list.
