Camp Emerald Bay is an award-winning premier camp destination for over 4500 Boy Scouts each summer.  It is located on the west end of Santa Catalina Island.  Scouts can earn merit badges, pet a shark at the Pennington Marine Science Center, snorkel/canoe/kayak in beautiful coves, hike, stargaze during Emerald Bay's signature overnight experience, War Canoe, and so much more!

The week is divided into 5 periods each day, during which scouts may take part in merit badge and rank advancement opportunities.  Emerald Bay also offers other camp programs and troop bonding activities to choose from during free time.  For example, scouts can join Handicraft and Nature Staff during open sessions to stamp a leather belt, carve an original neckerchief slide, or hike.  Free time may be used to visit the Emerald Bay Ship's Store for scouting supplies, merit badge materials, souvenirs, and snacks/drinks.

Campers stay in 2-person army-style wall tents (wooden platform to 2 cots/mattresses.)  Meals (salad bar and vegetarian options available) are provided in the newly remodeled Dining Hall, but scouts will have an opportunity to cook a meal over a beach campfire during their overnight.

Transportation (to/from Catalina Express Terminal in San Pedro, CA and boat ride to/from Catalina Island) is included in the ~$800 fee.  Our chartered bus will leave LAUMC on Sun, 6/16/2013, @ 3:30am (to be confirmed) and will return on Sat, 6/22/2013 @ 9:30pm (to be confirmed.)

Please sign up to reserve your spot now!  We have room for 30 scouts and 4 adults.  Interested uniformed adults leaders and other adults may contact Doug MacLeod for consideration and must be approved by both Doug and Brent Browning ... uniformed leaders will be given preference for the adult spots.

This page will be updated as more information is made available.

In only one week we will be camping on Catalina Island. Remember we need to be at the LAUMC parking lot at 3:00AM on Sunday 6/16 and the bus will leave at 3:30AM sharp. This is because we will need to check in at 10:30 AM at the San Pedro Pier to catch the ferry to Emerald Bay.

Hopefully you all reviewed the emerald bay sides, if not they are on Troop33 website under the Emerald Bay Activity.

Very Important
Please make sure that all scouts have a 1 litter water bottle or Camelback style hydration pack. Also scouts should have sun cream and chap stick. Scouts will need a mess kit. Also remember to pack a lunch for the scouts that will keep for a day. We leave at LAUMC at 3 A.M., stop for breakfast at 6:30 A.M. and we will be at the pier at 10:30 A.M., but Emerald Bay does not feed us until dinner.

I’m attaching the recommended packing list and list of items not to bring to this email.

  • Scouts will be responsible for taking their own medications
  • All prescription medications must be listed on the health form
  • T33 adult leaders keep a list of who needs medication when so we can follow up with scouts to make sure they are taking their medications.
  • Must be in original prescription container with dosage instructions.
  • Send minimum quantities to camp (only enough for one week)
