What to Expect

  • Route

    • Starts at Tioga Pass entrance @ 9,941' and ends at the summit @ 13,053'
    • Class 1-2 route and is not technically difficult but it is strenuous as we ascend ~3,100' in just 3-4 miles...

  • Altitude
    • We will only have one evening to start getting acclimated
    • Start hydrating as soon as we get into camp Friday night
    • Continue to hydrate before we hit the trail
    • Watch for signs of altitude sickness (headache, lack of appetite, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness, malaise)
  • Weather
    • It will likely be 70-80F in our campground but more like 40-50F at the summit
    • It will be cool and windy at the top so remember to bring a warm layer and your rain jacket
    • Thunderstorms are not expected but if present will force us to descend immediately
  • Views
    • Mt. Dana is the second highest peak in Yosemite (short by only 50')
    • Some of the best panoramic views you will experience in the area
