When: March 7 - 8, 2015
Where: King's Canyon National Park (Azalea Campground)
Who: Any Troop 33 scout who has attended at least one camp out before AND attended the Snow Safety Briefing (see below).
Cost: $50

Trip Details

We will be going to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park (the Azalea Campground).  As of Feb. 27 they had 14" of snow on
the ground and were expecting 4-8 more inches over the last weekend.  We expect there should still be snow this weekend.


Tues. Feb 24, 9pm  -  Informational meeting after regular scout meeting.
Wed. March 4, 7:30-9pm  - Snow Safety Briefing and Equipment inspection. Please bring all your equipment!
Fri. March 6, 7pm - Last equipment check, check out equipment from the cage, load up cars & carpool organization.
March 7-8  - Actual trip.

Snow Safety Briefing (required!!)

Tuesday after the troop meeting and Wednesday, March 4, 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Winter awareness training sessions,  Room 8 (LAUMC)
NOTE: ALL scouts going on the trip must attend this session!

Informational Meeting (Food & Clothing)

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, there will be short meeting after the regular scout meeting to discuss food and clothing you may need for this trip.  Please make every effort to attend this meeting (parents should probably come as well).

Friday, March 6th

  • 7:00 p.m. Drivers/SPL/PL/Quartermaster checkout gear; Finalize carpools - ready to go preparations

Saturday, March 7th

  • 6:30 a.m. Meet at LAUMC parking lot/check-in/gear check
  • 7:30 a.m. Depart 
  • ---Stop  for breakfast---
  • 12:30 p.m. eat sack lunch/rent snowshoes(?)
  • 1:00 p.m. Arrive at Campground/set up tents
  • 2:00 p.m. Snowshoe hiking, building a snow cave, play in the snow.
  • 4:30 p.m. Cook dinner/cleanup
  • 5:30 p.m. Campfire (if we can make a fire)
  • 8:30 p.m. Inside tents
  • 10:00 p.m. Lights out

Sunday, March 8th

  • 7:00 a.m. Wake up*
  • 7:30 a.m. Hot breakfast/cleanup/Scouts Own
  • 8:30 a.m. Pack up gear
  • 9:00 a.m. Snow play
  • 12:00 noon Lunch
  • 12:30 p.m. Depart for Los Altos via CA-180 park exit
  • 5:00 p.m. Arrive Los Altos
