What: A day of Snow Skiing or Snowboarding
When: February 5 - 6, 2016 (leave Friday at 6:45 PM)
Where: Sugarbowl Resort in the Sierras
Who: All Troop 33 Scouts
Cost: $167/scout, $133/young scout, $199/adult, including equipment rental, lessons are additional.  (See below for more detail.)

We’ll leave LAUMC Friday night, at 6:45 P.M., drive to Auburn, CA, getting dinner on the way.  We'll spend the night at a motel in Auburn. We’ll arise (very) early Saturday morning, get breakfast at the motel, and then drive the remaining 58 miles to Sugar Bowl (about one hour). Sugar Bowl is a large resort with plenty of trails for every skill level. We’ll ski or board all day and then depart from Sugar Bowl for home at about 5:00 P.M.. We'll stop for food on the way home (usually pizza). We should arrive Saturday night at LAUMC at about 9:30 P.M.


  • Do I need my own equipment?
    • No.  Equipment (Ski’s, boots, poles, and snowboards) is available for rental
  • Do I need my own (warm) clothes?
    • Yes
  • Do I need a helmet?
    • Yes! Yes! Yes! All scouts must have helmets. (available for rent at the resort)
  • Does the price include everything?
    • Price includes:
      • lodging on Friday night in Auburn (near Sacramento), 
      • breakfast at the motel
      • one full-day Lift Ticket 
      • rental equipment (ski or snowboard, boots, helmet, and poles).  
    • Scout will need to bring money for meals on Friday evening, Saturday noon, and Saturday evening.
  • Is the cost less if I have my own equipment?
    • Yes, the cost is $50 less for scouts ($35 less for young scouts) if you have your own equipment and your own helmet.
  • Should I rent equipment locally?
    • While this is an option for special situations, we would recommend you rent equipment at the resort with the rest of the group.
  • Can I take lessons?
    • Yes, lessons are available for an additional cost.  See below.

Here's the cost breakdown depending on your age, whether or not you rent equipment, and whether or not you take a beginner lesson.  The lift tickets and hotel both went up a little from last year.
