Communications

We use Google Groups for all our email communications.  You must have a Google account in order to subscribe to our groups and gain access to members-only content on the website.  You do not need to use Gmail to receive or send email and can use an existing email address.

Here are step-by-step instructions for joining:

Apply for a Google Account

  1. Visit https://accounts.google.com/signup
  2. Fill in the form and submit - don't forget your password!

Apply to members@troop33.org

  1. Visit http://www.google.com
  2. Sign in to your Google Account
  3. Visit http://groups.google.com/a/troop33.org/group/members
  4. Click on "Apply for membership"
  5. Fill out the form (please write both the scout’s and parent’s name in the additional information text box)
  6. Press "Apply to join this group"
  7. You should receive an email confirming your membership.

Add a second email to your Google account (optional)

  1. Visit http://www.google.com/settings
  2. Click on "Personal info & privacy"
  3. Click on the "Email" section
  4. Click on the "Alternate Emails" section
  5. Click on "Add other email"
  6. Enter your email address, and click "Add"
  7. You will receive an email with a link to confirm 

Remove your email from a Troop33 Group (such as members)

  1. Visit http://accounts.google.com
  2. Sign in to your Google Account
  3. Visit your group.
    1. For members use: http://groups.google.com/a/troop33.org/group/members
    2. For joined 2018 use: http://groups.google.com/a/troop33.org/group/joined2018
    3. For another group use: http://groups.google.com/a/troop33.org/group/<groupname>  but replace <groupname> with the name of the group.
  4. In the top right hand, corner select "My Settings".  It's icon looks like this:     It's in the 2nd row down from the top, 2nd icon from the right.
  5. Under "My Settings" , select "Leave this group"
  6. Respond "Leave this Group" in the dialog box.

Redirect Google Groups email to that new address (optional)

  1. Visit https://groups.google.com/a/troop33.org/groups/mysubs
  2. Look for the group "Troop 33 – Members"
  3. Click "Edit"
  4. Look for "Email used for your membership"
  5. Change from you@gmail.com to you@yoursite.com
  6. Click "Save"

Q: Why can't I see the website?
A: You must be logged into your Google account in order to see members-only content.

Q: Do I have to use Gmail?  I don't like it...
A: No.  You can have Google redirect email to another email address, see above for directions.

Q: Are all Google accounts @gmail.com?
A: Most Google accounts do end with @gmail.com but it is quite possible your account uses another email address.  In fact, almost any email address (including Yahoo and Comcast accounts) can be used as the Username for a Google account.  This can be confusing since the email address is for a different domain, but is still used by Google services for login.  Moreover, people who work at companies that use Google for email can use their work accounts directly, even though they won't end in "@gmail.com".

Q: How do I send email to all the troop members?
A: Simple, just send email members@troop33.org

Q: What is my "troop33.org" login?
A: We do not issue @troop33.org accounts.  If you see something like this, click on "Sign in with a different account", enter your Google account, and then enter your Google password.
