Camp Oljato

41 scouts and 9 adults visited the beautiful Camp Oljato on July 6-12,2014. Oljato is located in the High Sierras on Huntington Lake, south of Yosemite and north of Kings Canyon. The camp is around 240 miles away and takes a 5-6 hour bus ride to get there. Scouts worked on a variety of different merit badges while they are at camp, including  woodcarving, mammal study, rifle shooting, canoeing, and swimming. During free time, the scouts made use of the beautiful lake or played card games while munching on snacks from the Trading Post. Scouts can also go up to the shooting range and practice their aim with a rifle. The boys stayed at the Navajo campsite and slept in raised canvas tents, which house 2 boys each. All food is served buffet style with plenty of options so no scout walks away hungry. The first year scouts got an opportunity to sleep under the stars after canoeing to a beach located near the main Oljato beach. All the scouts enjoyed this week because it is a great time of bonding and connection building while having fun at an amazing camp. The boys all arrived home in great spirits with dirty faces and clothes. They can’t wait for next time!
