Scoutmaster Update - February 12, 2012

posted Feb 12, 2012, 10:06 PM by Brent Browning   [ updated Jun 16, 2012, 11:48 PM ]

This weekend a group of 13 Scouts and 5 adults went to Boreal to ski and snowboard.  The weather was great with a high of 36-40F during the day, partial clouds, and spring skiing conditions.  There was plenty of man-made snow and many runs were open with ski-in lift lines all day.  A few Scouts checked out the inner tube runs.  See a picture of the group below.  Thank you to Alan Carr for leading this trip and Padma Kuditipudi for coordinating!

Main Troop – Pioneering
First off…  Looking for a first year section?  There isn’t one this week, first year scouts join the main troop!  Patrol still stay together through the summer.  Patrols will be working on a pioneering project that will be used at next week’s meeting.

Patrol Leader Elections
Patrols will meet briefly after the opening announcements to elect a Patrol Leader.  Patrol Advisors will hand out ballots, collect the ballots, and manage the election process.  Scouts wanting to run for Patrol Leader need to notify their Patrol Advisor.

Date Changes
We have made several changes upcoming events due to conflicts.  See highlighted items below.

Eagle Scout Projects

Life Scouts seeking a project may contact Mr. Bernstein about 3 possible projects for Los Altos schools.  Almond School and Covington School are each seeking the construction of planter boxes using recycled redwood which they have obtained.  These projects would be done during the summer and need to be completed before the start of school next Fall.  This will allow for plenty of time to plan and obtain approvals.  The third project is at Springer School and is ready to be started now. This is an Ecological Restoration Project at their Native Plant Garden. Project involves installing permanent fencing to match adjacent garden fencing, reconditioning soil which has been compacted, planting about 40 new plants, installing plant protective fencing and repairing the dry creek bed. Their PTA has funding to do this work

Mr. Bernstein may be reached at or 408-299-1358.
