Scoutmaster update - January 6, 2013

posted Jan 6, 2013, 10:58 PM by Brent Browning
In Troop 33 fashion we kicked off the new year camping: 17 Scouts and 7 adults went snow camping at Grant Grove in Kings Canyon. Mr. Wilken writes “Great trip with plenty of snow! There was about one foot of soft snow when we arrived and three inches fell overnight. The scouts built forts, threw many snowballs, and created several sled runs. We all kept warm and dry. The food and hot drinks were appreciated: Firstie cooks and Blair made 3 Dutch oven desserts and Mountain Man Breakfasts (several firsties completed cooking requirements). We hiked through the Grant Grove and shared Thorns and Roses before leaving for home.”

PLC – THIS Tuesday 1/8 6:00-7:15pm
Green Bar – please bring $5 for dinner to be provided by Noah Jarvis.
Look at your schedules and be ready to sign up for SIC for open spots on

Death Valley – Planning and money/forms due!
This week we will spend the majority of the troop meeting planning for our upcoming MLK trip to DV! We have 71 people signed up for this epic trip and have a lot of work to do. Remember to bring your check for $150 and your signed consent form and turn it into Mrs. Jones to secure your spot.

Parents going on the DV trip, plan on meeting as a patrol to do your planning!

First Years
First year scouts will have a makeup session to cover some First Class skills. We are going to have 3 stations, 1 for covering food planning (First class 4a), another for lashings and Bowlines (First Class 7a, 7b and 8a) and a 3rd for First Aid Bandages (First Class 8b). Scouts who have completed these requirements should participate in the Death Valley planning instead.
