Scoutmaster update - November 11, 2012

posted Nov 11, 2012, 10:21 PM by Brent Browning   [ updated Nov 12, 2012, 5:40 PM ]
I hope everyone took a moment today to remember our veterans – we are eternally grateful for their service.

We have a lot going on as we approach the end of the year. This weekend we had Scouts out scouting for food, backpacking for their first time, and learning canoeing skills for the trip to Northern Tier next summer.

Merit Badge Rally – Nov 27, Dec 11, & Dec 18, 2012
Our annual in-troop merit badge rally is coming up in Nov/Dec. Mrs. Kitchen and Ms. Witter are coordinating again this year and have lined up counselors to teach 6 Eagle-required (Camping, Cit. Community, Cit. World, Family Life, Communications, and Cycling) and 4 elective merit badges (Art, Coin Collecting, Electronics, and Law).

Cake Auction – Dec 4, 2012
The astute observer will notice that our merit badge rally skips a week. We do NOT have the use of the LAUMC facilities on Tuesday December 4th. We have secured the use of the Hillview Community Center in Los Altos for our Scout-baked Cake Auction!

Scouting For Food – Nov 17, 2012
Bags were dropped off this past weekend and food pickup is this weekend.

Wreath Sales
Tis the season… We will be selling wreaths again this year with a new twist. Scouts will be doing pre-sales primarily with the goal that all profits from their individual sales will give the a credit to be used towards 2013 summer activities (Camp Oljato, Camp Emerald Bay, National Jamboree, or Northern Tier). Profits will be roughly $10/wreath so selling 20 wreaths, for example, will result in a $200 credit! Scouts can also elect to have the profit go into a scholarship fund that will be used for Scouts who may not otherwise get to experience some of the summer activities. Mr. Cyron will also be offering the Salesmanship merit badge this year.

Stay tuned for more details…
