Calling all Mountain Men!

Mountain Man Rendezvous is Oct. 18-20 at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation

Step back in time to see what it was like when pioneers roamed the frontier. The Rendezvous is for Boy Scouts and 2nd year Webelos hosted by a troop. Featured Programs: Scouts will learn frontier mountain man skills and do authentic rendezvous activities including: Archery, Gold Panning, Black Powder Rifle Shooting, Knife and and Tomahawk Throwing, Rope Making, Dutch Oven Cooking and more! Scouts also get to see how early pioneers lived by seeing an authentic reproduction of a mountain man encampment.

This is a very popular campout and registration is limited. Click here to sign up or read more.

Looking for an Eagle project?

I have been approached by several groups from our community with a wide variety of opportunities:

  • Los Altos Little League has projects at Purissima, Hillview, Santa Rita, and other fields

  • Moffett Field Historical Society needs a database and a full inventory of their items

  • Shed for Girl Scout troop that meets at Almond Elementary

If you are interested please contact me and I will make an introduction for you.

The Passing of Bob Keller, Scouter

Bob Keller, a long time Scouter, registered with Pack 87 in Mt. View and P/T Assistant Ranger at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation passed away suddenly last week of an apparent heart attack.

Bob has always been a great resource at BCSR, helpful both as a volunteer and a staff member of the Pacific Skyline Council. He was an accomplished musician and a member of the San Francisco Folk Music Group, which holds semi-annual gatherings at BCSR on the 4th of July & Labor Day weekends.

Bob provided personal resources, support, and led campfires for many groups; especially for Cub/Parent weekends. Bob was very knowledgeable about the local flora & fauna. He led many nature hikes and supported several community events at the camp. His knowledge and his efforts to introduce both youth and adults to the beautiful environs of Boulder Creek and the Santa Cruz Mountains will be sorely missed.

Bob is survived by his wife Pam, son, and grandson. A well-attended memorial in his honor was held at the Boulder Creek Scout Reservation on Sunday, September 8. Donations may be made in his memory to the Pacific Skyline Council BSA www.packy.org or VA Palo Alto Health Care System www.paloalto.va.gov.

Very sad, no more “Hot Frogs on the Run” or “Johnny Rebeck’s Machine” at the Mountain Man Rendezvous…[Brent Browning]
