Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast.net

Last Saturday through Tuesday Mr. Ottoes and Mr.Cyron took 10 Scouts on an intermediate backpacking trip near Big Sur where they hiked 17 miles with over 4000 feet of elevation gain.  Great job, Scouts!

This Friday, April 18th is the first of the Annual Planning meetings.  Jeremy Binkley sent out a surveymonkey last weekend that still needs input from the Scouts before Friday.  Please take the time to fill out the survey as it is key to the events the Scout leadership plans for the next year:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/96F56HX

THIS Tuesday

First Year Scouts will continue with First Aid activities. Main Troop will be building structures of poles, tarps and rope. Be sure to bring your headlamps

Service Project Hours credit

May 3rd - Denali School Carnival Fundraiser.  There will be activities, international food trucks, raffles, and a silent auction.  They are asking the Boy Scout troop to help “man” the carnival activities.  This means standing there to collect tickets and ensuring that things are in order, or monitor trash cans or be runners for the volunteer leaders. Set-up/Clean-up would also be helpful.  The event runs from 11 - 4.  Please contact Ms. Karen Franks at 415.595.5464, karenfranks@yahoo.com for more details and signing up.

May 24th - Memorial Day Flag Placement at the Golden Gate National Cemetery.  This will be the last Troop organized service project you can earn service hours for (except any Eagle project that may come up before the end of the school year).

OA News

Congratulations to scouts Jared Biesty, Noah Jarvis, Marcus MacLeod, Nathan MacLeod, Andrew Marcopulos, Anthony Mein, and Max Raschke, and adults Doug MacLeod and Blair Narog, who were inducted into the Order of the Arrow after completing their Ordeal at the Cutter Scout Reservation on April 12th.  The Ordeal is the first step toward full membership in the Order of the Arrow.  During the Ordeal weekend, candidates sleep apart from other campers, maintain silence, receive small amounts of food, and work on camp improvement projects.  All of these new Arrowmen are eligible to attend Order of the Arrow local, regional, and national events.

Congratulations to Troop 33 OA Representative Ryan Biesty who became a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow on April 12th.   After 10 months of service as an Ordeal member and fulfilling certain requirements, these new Arrowmen may take part in the Brotherhood ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting and the Order of the Arrow.  Completion of this ceremony signifies full membership in the Order of the Arrow.

Thanks to Andrew Aguilar, Jacob Frank, Ryan Biesty, Troop 33 OA Representative, and Troop 33 ASM Ted Marcopulos for their service throughout the Ordeal Weekend.

You can learn more about Troop 33 Arrowmen, past and present, and the Order of the Arrow by visiting the Troop 33 website: http://troop33.org/oa.
