Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

I was so happy having a week off, I forgot a couple of really important things to put out last week.

First, April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Our goal to is provide a safe environment for youth to participate in program, and  it is critical that not only our unit leaders, but all adults who interact with youth, become familiar with the BSA's Youth Protection policies, programs, and practices, including formalized Youth Protection Training (YPT). All leaders and registered adults are required to complete YPT every 24 months. So please join this effort to ensure that all our registered adults take, and remain, current in their YPT training requirements. Click here to get started!

Second, I received this video from Ty Baler of Max Baler and Sam Kaplan laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on April 6th.  Max and Sam went with their school, Graham Middle School, on a trip to Washington DC, and both Scouts volunteered for this honor ahead of time and they took their Scout uniforms to wear during the ceremony.

Our Troop is very proud of these two Scouts, as are the Baler and Kaplan families.

Saturday and Sunday 17 First Year Program Scouts camped out at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation for their first official BSA campout.  They were led by their Troop Guides, a Troop Scout Instructor and three Star Scouts completing their EDGE requirement.  All the First Year Scouts in attendance completed 12 achievements leading to the First Class rank, and they all earned their Firem’n Chit and Totin Chip.  The weather was great, we had a roaring campfire and the patrol skits were funny.  All the patrols did a great job with cooking their meals (dinner and breakfast).  Thanks all around to the Scout Leadership, Adult Leadership and Rick Valestra as the Activity Coordinator.  Everything went very smoothly.
