Scoutmaster Update

We had a good turn-out last week for our first meeting.  Thanks to David McAllister for his Philmont Crew 1 slide show.  Sunday was the reunion and close out dinner for the Philmont crews at the Palo Alto Service Center.  Thank you to Laurie Hartford and those that assisted her in set-up and tear down to make it such a wonderful and memorable time!


This Tuesday


We will have a short presentation by Andrew Gray, an Assistant Scoutmaster for the Pacific Skyline Council’s 2017 Jamboree contingent on the 2017 Boy Scout National Jamboree.  Following that will be the Senior Patrol Leader election. Appointed position sign-ups are on-going and the sign-up sheet will be available during the meeting.


First Year Scouts will resume their requirements skills training.


Patrol Leader elections are next week.

All Committee Members are requested to attend as this is our initial meeting of the Scouting year.  Items will include review and approval of this years schedule of activities, annual budget, open positions, initial discussions about this year’s recruiting plans and objectives and other items.  As always, all parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.  


A call for Den-Chiefs!

Scouts, if you've thought of being a Den-Chief, now is best chance to make it happen!  Our local cub scout leaders are starting to make their requests.  Last year, Troop 33 assigned more than 20 scouts to various local Packs.


If you're not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position.  As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local cub scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troop.


In general , anyone who meets the following guideline is a candidate for Den Chief:

- A Boy Scout who has been approved by their Scoutmaster to serve as a Den Chief, is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.  Den Chief Training (either on-line, classroom, or preferably both) is required.


The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year.  Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief service to Two Terms, maximum.  That gives other scouts an opportunity, and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.


If you are interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing (either at the Troop meetings or by email: rblasing@me.com), to get the ball rolling.  If you were a Den Chief last year, you will need to again receive Scoutmaster approval, and will need to coordinate the assignment through Mr. Blasing.
