This last Tuesday, 18 scouts and 7 adults enjoyed challenging their climbing skills and fear of heights at Planet Granite. Many thanks to Brian Mellea and Lance Phan for organizing, and to Tanya and Matt Raschke, Jing Wang, Charlie Crane, and Tom Poppitz for belaying. Also thanks to our older scouts Andrew Marcolulos, Jane Crane, and Zack Raschke for coaching and belaying scouts. We had four prospective Webelos Scouts recruits join us for the evening. Everyone had fun late into the evening, but a few managed to sneak in some Gelato anyway!

Saturday Troop 33 Scouts participated in our annual Salvation Army food box packing service.  There were a total of 30 Scouts and parents that manned the two tables.  The Salvation Army was hoping for 1,200 boxes to be filled with various food stuffs.  The Scouts packed 1,383 boxes!  Additionally, they packed 118 boxes with the left over foods that will be sent to various churches to help them fill their food give away requirements.  Thanks to Austin Townsend as the Scout-in-Charge, Alan Cyron and Karen Townsend for organizing, coordinating and pretty much doing everything for this event, and to the parents who drove and helped pack the boxes.

This Tuesday

Reminder: Additional Den Chief Opportunities

Thanks to the 14 scouts who have taken on the role of Den Chief this year; their presence and help have been greatly appreciated by the Cub Scout Dens that they have been working with.  It has recently come to my attention that Pack 78 in Los Altos could use a few additional Den Chiefs.

If you are  1st class rank or higher and are interested in this Position of Responsibility, please contact Mr. Alfred Chin at a Troop Meeting or email him at:

If you are not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position. As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local cub scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troop.

In general, anyone who meets the following guidelines is a candidate for Den Chief:

- A Boy Scout who has been approved by their ScoutMaster to serve as a Den Chief, is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.  Den Chief Training (either online, classroom, or both) is required.

The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year,  Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief Services to Two terms, maximum.  That gives other scouts an opportunity, and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.

Reminder: Recruiting Update
