Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

There is no regular Troop meeting this Tuesday.  In lieu of a meeting, we have an activity at Sky High Sports.  If you’ve not signed up, you can still do so at the above link.

Next Tuesday, December 13, is the Troop 33 Cake Action.  All Scouts and adults are invited to create a world class cake of your design and choosing that will be auction at the meeting to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Their mission is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families.  What they do:  Helping a sick child fight their illness takes a big enough emotional toll on a family. Adding a financial strain can make it all almost too much to bear. RMHC can help address those problems, whether they involve housing that’s near a hospitalized child, the expense of staying together in another city, or even getting basic medical and dental care in a vulnerable community.  Find out more at: http://www.rmhc.org/.

If you have Troop equipment, please be sure to bring it next week cleaned and labeled, indicting any deficiencies.

Be sure to pay attention to the Troop 33 web site Calendar and Activity pages for upcoming events. These two pages are to help you arrange Scout events with school, sport and family events.  Everything we do is posted so you can always know what is going on.

This Tuesday

NO regular Troop meeting this week.  You can still sign up for Sky High Sports if you wish to attend this fun activity.

First Year program Scouts and any Scouts still needing requirements toward First Class can attend a catch-up session on Tuesday starting at 7:30 in Room 9, LAUMC.

Alan Cyron ajcyron@msn.com

Only seven days left to get your Wreath orders in.  To date, only 5 Scouts have sold 20 wreaths.  A very disappointing number for the work involved to coordinate this activity.  Remember, you are selling a high quality wreath that helps fund your Troop activities and earn a major requirement for the Salesmanship merit badge.  Details here.

Next Board of Review is Tuesday, December 13

Mrs. Stanley marilynb@stanford.edu

Deadline to request is Wednesday, November 30.  Please send me a note if you need to schedule a review or would like to help.  Please keep in mind next rank requirements are in place starting January 2017.

Additionally, I will need about 20 parent volunteers as I anticipate that we will need to have about 6 panels.  Please let me know if you can help on December 13.

A call for Den-Chiefs. Nine positions available!

Mr Blasing rblasing@me.com

Scouts, if you've thought of being a Den-Chief, now is best chance to make it happen!  Our local cub scout leaders are starting to make their requests.  Last year, Troop 33 assigned more than 20 scouts to various local Packs.

If you're not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position.  As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local cub scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troop.

In general , anyone who meets the following guideline is a candidate for Den Chief:

- A Boy Scout who has been approved by their Scoutmaster to serve as a Den Chief, is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.  Den Chief Training (either on-line, classroom, or preferably both) is required.

The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year.  Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief service to Two Terms, maximum.  That gives other scouts an opportunity, and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.

We still have several more requests for Den Chiefs than candidates.  Our neighboring cub scout Packs continue to reach out to us, because we've built a strong reputation for great Den Chiefs.  Let's not let them down!  If you still need a PoR, please consider helping out your local cub scouts, but signing up to be a Den Chief!

If you are interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing (either at the Troop meetings or by email: rblasing@me.com), to get the ball rolling.  If you were a Den Chief last year, you will need to again receive Scoutmaster approval, and will need to coordinate the assignment through Mr. Blasing.

For questions on an activity or event, contact the activity owner listed. As an activity owner to have your items included in the T33 Weekly blast, please submit them to Sundeep Gupta sundeep.gupta@gmail.com by 5 pm Sunday for the following week’s edition.
