T33 Weekly Blast: Dec 8

Dec 9 - Jump Sky High (no regular meeting)

Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Tis the season…

On Saturday, 25 Scouts and six adults helped the Salvation Army put together food boxes, pack food into the boxes and set up 2000 bags for children’s stocking stuffers for three hours (plus clean up the residue and recycle the cardboard boxes).  The Salvation Army staff was most appreciative, and said this was the first time so much work was accomplished on the first Saturday of its operations.  A special thanks to Alan Cyron for organizing this event (and bringing the donuts!), and to Brandon Le for being the Scout in Charge.

Also, wreath sales ended yesterday with a booth selling wreaths to the LAUMC congregation all morning.  Many Scouts not only sold wreaths prior to this event, many more manned the table during the various service times.  Again, a big Thank you to Alan for organizing this and running the wreath ordering, and to Gian Coolen as the Scout in Charge.

Don’t forget, next Tuesday is the cake auction to raise funds for another non-profit organization helping those in need during the holidays.

THIS Tuesday

There is NO regular Troop Meeting this week (December 9th).  If  you are not going to Jump Sky High Tuesday evening, then do not show up at LAUMC.

Our time in Sacramento will be a fabulous historic trip!

Judy Bergwerk

Camp Emerald Bay is an award-winning premier camp destination for over 4500 Boy Scouts each summer.  It is located on the west end of Santa Catalina Island 22 miles off the coast of Los Angeles. Scouts can earn merit badges, pet a shark at the Pennington Marine Science Center, snorkel/canoe/kayak in beautiful coves, hike, stargaze during Emerald Bay's signature overnight experience War Canoe, and so much more!

Scouts have up to 3 merit badge or rank advancement opportunities.  Emerald Bay also offers other camp programs and troop bonding activities to choose from during free time.  For example, scouts can join Handicraft and Nature Staff during open sessions to stamp a leather belt, carve an original neckerchief slide, or hike.  Free time may be used to visit the Emerald Bay Ship's Store for scouting supplies, merit badge materials, souvenirs, and snacks/drinks.

Campers stay in 2-person wall tents (wooden platform to 2 cots/mattresses.)  Meals (salad bar and vegetarian options available) are provided in the newly remodeled Dining Hall.

Transportation (to/from Catalina Express Terminal in San Pedro, CA and boat ride to/from Catalina Island) is included in the ~$850 fee.  Our chartered bus will leave LAUMC on Sun, 6/14/2015, @ 3:30am and will return on Sat, 6/20/2015 @ 8:30pm (to be confirmed.)

Need a Position of Responsibility? Try Den Chief

Our Den Chief program is off to a great start this year!  13 scouts are currently working towards securing their Den assignments!  However, we continue to get requests for Den Chiefs from several local Packs.  We currently have at least another 3 opportunities, and probably more.   So if you're interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing to get the ball rolling (
