Reminder: Board of Review Dates

The next Board of Review is on December 18th 2018. Scouts wanting a Board of Review should send Mrs. Hongjun Zhu at a note before December 5th. Scouts are encouraged to request their own review.

Parent volunteers are also needed! Please email if you can help on the 18th.

Troop 33 membership fee due

It is time to renew your membership with Troop 33. Every scout and every adult member are required to register online to continue to participate in troop activities. Membership fees are $168 for each scout, but if you complete your registration by December 15 you will benefit from an early bird rate of $156. Adult membership with Troop 33 continues to be free for all of 2019.

Both Scouts and adult members are required to fill in the appropriate online registration form.

Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge - December 4, 6:15pm-7:15pm

There will be an Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge class on Dec 4 from 6:15pm to 7:15pm at LAUMC, just prior to the regular Tuesday troop meeting. This class is an Eagle Scout required class and has three sessions. The first session is on Dec 4 and the next two sessions will be held in January. The class is being offered by Ms. Schmitt with Mr. Baretta’s assistance. Please sign-up at the website.

Jump Sky High - December 11, 6:45-9:00pm

On Tuesday Dec. 11th, instead of our regular troop meeting we will be bouncing and dodging at Jump Sky High in Santa Clara.  Please come join us. To attend you MUST sign up (the sign up page is open now). All participants are also required to have a waiver, signed by their parents, in addition to the Troop 33 activity consent form.  Both forms are available on the activity page.

Rim Rover Patch Hiking Series - various dates between December 15 and June 2019

Where: Check below for each hike, depending on group and weather; can be up to two hours away.

Who: Scouts and adults (Ages 10+ is recommended)

Cost:  FREE to hike, cost for gas.  Drivers will be reimbursed for gas, and will need to bring a lunch and water.

Hey, Scouts!

Troop 33 Scouts, merit badge-seekers, parent hiker enthusiasts -- do I have an activity for you!! Earn an Eagle-required merit badge over the summer or hike for hikers sake!

Ms. Oates will be leading the Rim Rover and Hiking Merit Badge, which requires 5 long hikes of 5 to 20 miles with one overnight.  This is a great preparation for the 50-milers, and if you make all 6 Saturdays and 1 weekend, you will definitely get the merit badge as well as qualifying for other merit badges.

What’s that you say? You already have the badge? You can’t make all 6 Saturdays? No problem! You can make as many or as few as you like, and you are guaranteed to see some amazing peaks around the Bay Area that you likely have never seen before.

Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Scouts (and all participants) must be physically fit and accustomed to 5 to 11-mile hikes, which could take up to 5 hours, depending on the speed of the group.

Below are the dates for the hikes:

·                December 15th— Mission Peak

·                February 2nd- Pinnacles

·                March 9th- Mt. Tamaulipas

·                April 6th- Mount Wittenberg

·                TBD- Mount St. Helena/Mount Diablo- overnight camping, possibly May or June

We will meet at LAUMC at (depending on the hike) 5:30 am to 7:30 am, so that we can do these hikes before the hottest part of the day.

Cost: Gas Money. Drivers will be reimbursed for gas, and will need to bring a lunch and water.

The more the merrier, as long as we have drivers.

Death Valley Camping - Jan 18 - 21, 2019 (MLK holiday weekend)

The temperature in January in Death Valley is just right for camping! Visit Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, hike into a volcanic crater at Ubehebe or visit mining ghost towns at Rhyolite and Leadfield, and try sand sledding at one of the dune fields.

Camp Emerald Bay - June 15- June 22, 2019 (The Sat. after LASD schools end)

Sign up is open now. We have only space for 35 scouts and 4 adults. No guarantee of adding more slots.

Our troop attends Emerald Bay camp every other year and it is a favorite for water front Merit Badges and Oceanography.

All the details can be found here. Merit Badge sign-ups will come in Spring 2019. For older scouts who have completed the merit badges that the camp offers, its Rugged Adventurers Programs are great options.

Dates 6/15/17 - 6/22/17 (6/15 overnight on USS Iowa)

Cost: approximately $950

Payments must be made by these dates to hold your spot. There are no refunds.

Camp Emerald Bay Fees/Payments*:

$180 deposit due no later than 1/4/2019

$620 payment due no later than 2/22/2019

$150 (amount to be finalized) final payment due no later than 5/10/2019
