Scoutmaster Induction Ceremony: Tuesday February 25th

Alan Cyron ajcyron@msn.com

At about 8:45 pm, towards the end our regularly Tuesday meeting on February 25th, we will have the official changing of the Troop's leadership from our outgoing Scoutmaster Brent Browning to our new Scoutmaster Chris Webb.  Please join me in showing our appreciation to Brent and welcoming Chris.

Scoutmaster Update

Brent Browning brent.browning@gmail.com

Another action packed Scouting weekend!

We had a group of brave backpackers head out into certain rainstorms at Del Valle.  Many for their first backpacking trip.  It turns out they did not get rained on!  From what I hear they had a blast and it was a very successful trip.  I am looking forward to hearing the stories.

Today was Scout Sunday and a small but dedicated group of Scouts volunteers.  Thank you to Max Drummond as our Chaplain’s Aide, Mr. Rutledge as our Chartered Organization Representative, and Mr. Webb and Mr. Cyron for their participation.

In the past few days we had three Scoutmasters completed their 16-hour Wilderness First Aid certification in preparation for Philmont this summer.  Other Scoutmasters completed it in the past month or so and a few more will be taking the class in March.  Every Scout deserves a “Trained” leader!

SPL Election

Several candidates will be running for SPL.  They will give short speeches after announcements and the entire troop will vote.

Tomorrow Night

The main troop is having a sports night run by the Decepticons and R*7 Good Looking patrols.

First years will continue with make-up work, only ONE meeting left until you join the main troop...

First Year Transition Parent Meeting THIS Tuesday

Mr. MacLeod and I will be giving a presentation in “Room 9” on the transition from first year Scouts into the main troop.  The goal is to answer questions parents may have and to give some guidance as to what happens in the main troop and how to help your Scout manage his Scouting career.

First Year Orientation Parent Meeting THIS Tuesday

Mr. Webb and Mr. Kim will be holding an orientation for parents of incoming first year Scouts.  The meeting will be in the “parents room” and will start at ~7:45 after the opening.

Cit in the Comm Merit Badge presentations this Tuesday

Prior to the next scout meeting on Tuesday, February 11, at 6:30p.m. - 7:15 p.m. in room 9, scouts will be giving presentation for their Cit in the Comm merit badge.  The following scouts should attend:

  • Any scout interested in completing Cit in the Comm Merit Badge - Requirement 8

  • If you didn't take the merit badge class this last fall, but would like to get this requirement checked off, please feel free to attend.

  • Any other scout needing to do a presentation for a merit badge is welcome to join, but please get permission from your merit badge counselor.

To be fair to all, scouts are requested to stay for the entire duration. Merit badge books will be signed after all presentations are completed.

Sign up form is here.

Please let Mrs. Stanley (marilynb@stanford.edu) know if you have questions.

Need some scouting gear? Have something you no longer need? Read on…

Scouts and parents:

  • Do you have outdoor gear that is still in great condition but outgrown or no longer needed?

  • Would you be interested in selling it to another scout?

We bet there is a lot of gear in our storage that is no longer in use. We'd like to find out if there is enough interest in selling and buying to set aside time during a Tuesday meeting later this month or in March as a gear flea market.

Please think about your outgrown/unused gear and think about your needs for spring and summer hiking and camping. Then fill out the survey here.

Any questions, contact Matthew Schueren (matthewschueren@gmail.com).
