Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

I wonder if anyone was able to take advantage of the winter break to go skiing, anywhere, but if you managed to find decent snow, I imagine you made the best of it  Not much in the way of Scout activities this past week as the Sporting Event (Stanford vs. UC Berkeley Men’s Basketball) was postponed due to a lack of Scouts signing up.  We are looking to find another sporting venue to offer within the next couple months.

I do want to share a couple of stories that ran in recent past publications of the Los Altos Town Crier.  Two of our Eagle Scouts have attained great recognition in two different categories.  Rohith Kuditipudi was selected as a finalist in the national Intel Science Talent Search, and Ashwin Krishna will be one of the guitarists performing on a National Public Radio (NPR) “From the Top” in March.  Please find the links to their stories below.  Congratulations to Rohith and Ashwin.

Patrol Leader Elections are February 24th, to include Order of the Arrow Elections.

The mandatory ILST for all newly elected leaders and assigned positions is March 1st.

Snow Camping (at least cold weather camping) is March 7th and 8th.

Troop Merit Badge Midway is Saturday morning, March 14th.

Camping/Shooting Sports – Pico Blanco, March 27th through 29th.

THIS Tuesday

This is the last meeting of the current First Year Scouts!  After the Patrol Leader and Order of the Arrow elections, Mr. Kim will be closing out their year, and my guess is there will be a lot of Scoutmaster Conferences! Main Troop will conduct Chariot Races.  Peter Stanley and I will be meeting with the new First Year Program parents after the announcement.

1. One More Driver Needed for Snow Camping Trip!

URGENT:  More Adults/Drivers needed for Snow Camping Trip!

We currently do not have enough drivers signed up for the Snow Camping trip to

drive all of the scouts who are signed up.  We really need at least 1 more adult to

go on this trip.   Any adult who can drive and is interested, please sign up!!

2. Snow Camping Forms/Payments

Everybody who is going on the Snow Camping Trip needs to fill out an activity form (there

is a link on the activity page), and turn the forms and the payment in to Caroline Tice at one of the troop meeting.  Final deadline for forms and payments isTuesday, March 3.

3. Reminder: Snow Camping Food/Clothing Meeting *THIS TUESDAY*

Reminder:  There will be a short meeting after the regular troop meeting this Tuesday (Feb. 24), to go over the food and clothing requirements for the Snow Camping trip.  Everyone who is going on the trip is strongly encouraged to attend.  Parents may want to attend as well.

Activity Coordinator Positions open

Kathleen McGall katom882002@yahoo.com

Making great progress in signups, but still need couple more. A big thank you to everyone who has signed up already.

First year activities for this spring will require ACs, we give the new first year parents a break on this until fall (they have enough to adjust to--remember when you were a new parent), so please sign up as these activities are added.

Please sign up even if you have never been an AC. You will be trained. Link to signups is at the top of the activities page.

This is a critical role for our troop to be able to offer as many activities as we do. Plus each family is expected to volunteering two types of roles every year and this role will fulfill one of your volunteer roles for the troop. An AC is required to sign up for one event per year. Also as an AC you or your scout do not need to attend the event. If we do not get an AC for an activity we will need to cancel it.

We have some exciting opportunities for AC coming up that still need assignment:

Activities requiring AC.

1. Camporee (4/17-4/19)

2. First Year campout (4/18-4/19)

3. First Year Bedwell Park Orienteering (5/9)

Please sign up to help!  Thank you!  Please contact me with any questions.
