Although the Pinnacles camping trip was cancelled due to the potential extreme rain and high winds, 11 hearty and intrepid Scouts, two adult leaders, and seven parents still did a six-mile hike there on Saturday.  We lucked out that when we started there wasn’t any rain, but less than a mile in, it started raining. It rained pretty heavily on and off throughout the trip, but let up at lunchtime (very fortuitous!), but the leg going to the reservoir and the cave entrance it was a constant delude.  The raindrops were so big, they actually hurt. The water was cascading over the reservoir dam (see photo above), and so much water was coursing through the caves, we deemed it prudent to forego that part of the hike (to everyone’s disappointment). But it was a very good hike, and all came through fine.  Thank you to June Zhu for being the AC for the Pinnacles camping trip and morphing into the hiking trip AC, and to Cameron Oates for coordinating the hike. Many thanks to the parents for driving and accompanying us.

Tuesday’s meeting is the Order of the Arrow election for this year.  For the election to be legitimate, we need a majority of the assigned Scouts to attend the meeting for the voting process.  Please be in attendance for this meeting so we can have new members of the OA (of which many of you are members). This is an official OA event, so members of the OA are authorized to wear their OA sash.  See you there!

I am finalizing the details for the February 23 – 24 Snow Camping trip and will have the website up and available for sign-ups on Tuesday morning.  There will be a coordination meeting following the Troop meeting on Tuesday, February 12th.  I will put a reminder in next week’s Blast.

There is an Orientation Meeting for the New (2109 – 2020) First Year Program parents directly after announcements.

This Tuesday

The theme for February Troop meetings is Winter Activities, and tomorrow will be a video presentation on Sir Ernest Shackleton’s expeditions to Antarctica, followed by a winter/snow survivability game.

First Year Program Scouts will be working in completing the Trail-to-First-Class requirements as they head into the last month of their year-long program.

Scouting Sunday - February 10, 2019: 8:30am or 10:00am Service

Scouting Sunday is where boy, girl, and cub scouts attend and participate in the 2 Sunday morning services at LAUMC. This is our way of saying "Thank you" to the church for sponsoring Troop 33.

During the event, scouts will be allowed to help at the service, of which there will be two, one at 8:30 AM and the other at 10:00 AM. Multiple roles will have to be fulfilled by the scouts. Scouts will usher in people, read short passages from the Bible and give a brief speech about the impact of scouting in their life.

Scouts earn service hours for their participation. You do not need to be a member of or attend church at LAUMC in order to participate.

Please register and provide your preferences of activities.

NOTE: This ride is 35 miles in length total down a steep fire road with many ruts, ditches, tree roots, and rocks.  You must have intermediate level bike handling skills on dirt trails in order to successfully navigate this trail. This trail is rough and fun, are you up to the challenge?!
