Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Troop 33 had a busy weekend - Saturday, 20 Scouts began their first full day of learning and cooking for the Cooking Merit Badge.  Led by Brian Mellea and other great cooking counselors, the boys cooked up some great meals, both in the kitchen and on outdoor gas stoves, to include pancakes for breakfast, chicken fajitas for lunch and spaghetti bolognese for dinner.  These boys can cook!

Sunday was the Eagle Court of Honor for Drew Jones, Glenn Reddy and Rohan Suresh.  It was a fantastic ceremony, and Brent Browning was the guest speaker.  Congratulations to Drew, Glenn and Rohan.

The Sacramento trip is this weekend, which is the last big event for this month, and next month is the Skiing/Snow Sports trip, 6 - 7 February (see details below).  Scout Sunday in on the 8th.  Steven Rutledge made an announcement last Tuesday as he is the Scout in Charge.  Contact him if you are interested in participating.

THIS Tuesday

Main Troop will be covering Snow Safety, focusing on safety and first aid in a snow or icy environment.  First Year Scouts will continue finishing up their achievements for advancement towards First Class.

Scout Sunday is coming up on February 8th, 2015. This is where boy and girl scouts attend and participate in the 3 Sunday morning services at LAUMC. This is our way of saying to "Thank you" to the church for sponsoring Troop 33. Through Scout Sunday, we can show LAUMC how their "investment" in scouting is paying off.

Boy Scouts get service hours for their participation. And you do not need to attend church at LAUMC in order to participate!

The request is for you (scouts) to volunteer and attend one or more of the LAUMC services on Sunday, Feb 8th (8:00am, 9:30am, 11:15am; we may also do 5pm), and serve the role of either greeter, reader, speaker, or pass out bulletins. The speaking roles are 2 mins in length. During this process, a scout can meet the Communications MB requirement of giving a speech to a group (requirement is 5 minutes, so this can be achieved in a longer rehearsal speech).

We will be making announcements at upcoming troop meetings, and Steve Rutledge, the T33 Chaplain's Aide, will be assisting in getting sign-ups and helping us move forward.

Please help us show our appreciation to LAUMC and sign-up (and get service hours)!
