Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, 29 Scouts and 10 adults made the long trek to Death Valley.  It was a marvelous trip with visits at Dante’s View with its overlook of the valley floor, Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the contiguous United States (282 feet below sea level!), Ubehebe crater, Rhyolite and Leadville ghost towns, Titus Canyon, Golden Canyon and of course, sledding down the sand dunes at Mesquite Flats.  A great big thank you to Judy Bergwerk for coordinating everything as the Activity Coordinator, Andrew Marcopulos as the Scout-in-Charge, our uniformed leaders Doug MacLeod, Peter Stanley, Jun Kim and Ted Marcopulos, and adult volunteers Mirtes Frediani, Dan Walker, Michael Love and Ty Baler for driving and helping the Scouts with their activities.

This past Saturday, Brian Mellea, Kimberley Dickerson and Laurie Hartford ran the second day of the Cooking Merit Badge in the outdoors of Brian’s backyard.  Another great job by them and their supporting volunteers.

Saturday, January 30, your Quartermaster, Nitin Kumar, will be conducting a cage inventory and organization from 8:30 to 11:30 am.  Service hours credit can be earned by participating.  Uniform is Class B.

This Tuesday

Court of Honor is tomorrow!  All Scouts will participate, and regardless if you are being honored in the ceremony, will wear your complete Class A uniform, to include Merit Badge sash.  This is not an Order of the Arrow event, so OA sashes are not authorized.

Last Call for Troop Guides!

Mr. Stanley

In March of the new year we will be getting a bumper crop of first year scouts joining the troop. I need to find new troop guides for the incoming firsties in 2016.

If you are up for the challenge, email me. We are starting interviews this week.

We also need easy up tents and large hand trucks!

Please sign up HERE to help!  Thanks!

Sign up for Scout Sunday Feb 7

Laurie Hartford

On February 7, we have Scout Sunday where we give back to the Church by helping to run the service. This is our way of giving thanks for all that LAUMC does for us.  If you are in need of service hours or just want to help, we need all the help we can get. You can be a greeter, speaker, or pass out bulletins. Also the speech can help you fulfill the 5 minute speech needed for the communications merit badge.

Click here for more info and to sign up.
