Hey, Scouts!
Troop 33 Scouts, merit badge-seekers, parent hiker enthusiasts -- do I have an activity for you!! Earn an Eagle-required merit badge over the summer or hike for hikers sake!
Ms. Oates will be leading the Rim Rover and Hiking Merit Badge, which requires 5 long hikes of 5 to 20 miles with one overnight. This is a great preparation for the 50-milers, and if you make all 6 Saturdays and 1 weekend, you will definitely get the merit badge as well as qualifying for other merit badges.
What’s that you say? You already have the badge? You can’t make all 6 Saturdays? No problem! You can make as many or as few as you like, and you are guaranteed to see some amazing peaks around the Bay Area that you likely have never seen before.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Scouts (and all participants) must be physically fit and accustomed to 5 to 11-mile hikes, which could take up to 5 hours, depending on the speed of the group.
Below are the dates for the hikes:
· December 15th— Mission Peak
· February 2nd- Pinnacles
· March 9th- Mt. Tamaulipas
· April 6th- Mount Wittenberg
· TBD- Mount St. Helena/Mount Diablo- overnight camping, possibly May or June
We will meet at LAUMC at (depending on the hike) 5:30 am to 7:30 am, so that we can do these hikes before the hottest part of the day.
Cost: Gas Money. Drivers will be reimbursed for gas, and will need to bring a lunch and water.
The more the merrier, as long as we have drivers.
Have we eliminated all of your reasons for not going yet? Good.
See you there!
