June 6: End of Year Family Picnic, Last Meeting of Year.

Sunday we celebrated the advancement for three of our newer Troop 33 Eagles in an Eagle Court of Honor.  The Eagle Scouts are Colin Dickerson, Max Drummond, and Anand Kulandaivelu.  A good friend of these Scouts from Troop 37 also participated in the ceremony, Matthew Schmidt.  The ceremony was held at the Covington Elementary School, and it was conducted by our Eagle Advancement Coordinator, Robert Bowden.  William Stanley, Senior Patrol Leader, presided, and Alan Cyron administered the Eagle Oath.  Colin, Max and Anand passed the candles to Joey Braun, Felix Boustead and Anthony Tam during the Passing of the Light ceremony.  Major thanks to Kimberly Dickerson for coordinating and setting up the entire ceremony, and Laurie Hartford and Tanya Maluf for providing and serving the refreshments.  We are so very proud of our Eagle Scouts!

This Tuesday

All members of the Troop will meet at Cuesta Park in Mountain View.  Look for us in the BBQ/Picnic table site on the Cuesta Drive side of the park (near the playground).  Do not meet at LAUMC.

This is our last meeting of the school year, which culminates with the family picnic and Court of Honor.  Also, please note it starts earlier at 6 pm.

REMINDERS

Join us for camping and hiking in Yosemite!

Amy Mendenhall amylmendenhall@gmail.com

  • We're going Labor Day weekend (September 2-4)

  • Families and siblings are welcome (although we'll give preference to scouts)

  • We have secured campsites for 90 participants, so we hope to accommodate all that are interested.

  • We're *not* leaving on Friday night with everyone else in the Bay Area.  Instead, we're leaving early on Saturday morning, Sept 2, and returning Monday Sept 4.

  • There will be time for everyone to do two day hikes before coming back on Monday

  • Experienced scouts, instead of hiking Half Dome, will be able to hike Cloud's Rest, an epic ridge that looks down on Half Dome or another hike such at Mt. Dana, yet to be determined.

Why

  • Tuolumne Meadows is in the high country of Yosemite National Park. More info here.

  • it is much less crowded than the valley and a totally different experience than the valley, if you have not been before it is worth coming up to see why we visit the park each fall.
