Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Welcome to the final Blast of the 2015 – 16 School year!  The Blast will resume the Monday prior to our first Troop meeting August 16.  There may be, however, mass e-mails to the membership for updates or activities in lieu of the Blast.  These will be kept to a minimum.

Sunday had a couple of Scout activities, first and most importantly was the Eagle Court of Honor in the sanctuary at LAUMC.  Troop 33 honored and welcomed the celebration of our newest Eagle Scouts, Jacob Frank, Brandon Le, Steven Rutledge and Justin Yun.  We are very proud of our Eagle Scouts and wish them the best in their future endeavors.  Gigantically huge thank yours to Kimberly Dickerson for arranging the whole ceremony, Laurie Hartford and Tanya Maluf, for the hospitality room with the cakes and refreshments, David McAlister, SPL, and the color guard Scouts, Bob Bowden, the Court Master of Ceremonies, Brent Browning, guest speaker, and Alan Cyron for the Eagle swearing in portion of the ceremony.  And thanks to the First Year Scouts for their participation in the passing of the lighted candle part of the ceremony.  There are so many volunteers that put this together that I am sure I missed some one, and my apologies to them, so thank you all.

Sunday morning, six Scouts and two adult leaders from the Philmont crews conducted the last optional shakedown hike at Windy Hill in Portola Valley.  They hiked over eight miles with an elevation gain and loss of over 1300 feet.  Many thanks to Caroline Tice for setting this up as the Activity Coordinator.

This Tuesday

Tuesday is our last meeting of the school year, and it is our family picnic and last Court of Honor.  If you haven’t please make sure you have registered on the activity web page so we know how many will be in attendance.

Although this is an outdoor event, it is still a Troop meeting, and more importantly, a Court of Honor, so Scouts must wear their full uniform (not just the shirt).  Even if the Scout is not participating in the ceremony, full uniform is still required, including the Merit Badge sash – not an OA sash), as it not only reflects pride in the uniform, Troop 33 and the Boy Scouts of America, but is honors and pays respect to those Scouts that will be recognized in the Court of Honor.

Family Picnic is June 7!

Please join us Tuesday, June 7 for our annual Family Picnic! This year we'll celebrate at Cuesta Park in Mountain View from 5:30 pm til 9:00 pm. All scouts and their families are invited. Each family should plan on bringing a passing dish. T33 will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers. The cost to attend is free!

We also need a few volunteers for this event including:

  • Shoppers

  • Grillers

  • Set-up

  • Clean-up

If you'd like to sign up to volunteer, please email Amy Mendenhall

Please consider donating to the Friends of Scouting Campaign

Elaine Blasing

It is still the “Friends of Scouting” campaign going on.  This is where we support our local Boy Scout Chapter with a donation to help cover the maintenance associated with Camp Oljato, Camp Cutter, Boulder Creek Scout Reservations and covers the cost of our wonderful Palo Alto and Foster City Council offices.  The council’s budget is about $15.50/month or $185/year per scout.  This campaign is different from our troop dues which were collected in the fall and goes directly to our troop for events, equipment, supplies, badges, etc.

Please don’t forget to give to "Friends of Scouting" at the following website:

Please choose the Stanford District, Troop/Unit #33

Please feel free to mail the checks to me (682 Coral Court, Los Altos, 94024) or sign up on the above website.
