Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb

This past week has been very busy, and we had a number of Scouts, Uniformed Leaders and an Adult Volunteer recognized for their exemplary dedication, hard work and time.  On Tuesday at the Pacific Skyline Council Dinner, Mr. Browning received the coveted Silver Beaver Award for his contributions and leadership in the council.  A most deserved honor -  we send a hearty congratulations to Mr. Browning!  At the Stanford District Dinner on Friday, three of our Scouts were awarded the Scout of the Year Award.  Congratulations to Jacob Franks, Zachary Ottoes and Nathaniel Wifler!  Austin Browning was inducted into the National Youth Leadership Society for his six years of Troop leadership and numerous leadership training courses he attended.  Way to go, Austin! Two Assistant Scoutmasters and one adult volunteer received the Flame of Leadership Award.  Congratulations to Scott Ottoes, Doug MacLeod and Bill Bassett!  Finally, the 2013 District Award of Merit was awarded to our own Committee Chairman, Alan Cyron, and Carl Gabrielson for his work for the district!  This is awesome that they received this honor.  Congratulations!  Finally, two of our Scoutmasters received their Woodbadge beads, neckerchief and leather woggle in a Beading Ceremony, signifying the completion of their program and graduation from the Woodbadge course - Blair Narag and Chris Webb.  Congratulations!

Please see Mr. Coolen’s remarks below on the 50-mile bicycle ride, Saturday, March 8th.

Reminder: Den Chiefs Needed!

This is a great way to earn leadership credit, while helping out our local cub scouts and it’s not too late to sign up as Den Chief !

Bear Den 5 in Pack 426 (3rd graders) has an opening for a den chief. They generally meet 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 4:30-5:30pm in Sunnyvale.

If you're interested, please contact Mr Blasing

Reminder: Life Scouts – Eagle Project Available

If you are a Life Scout and need an Eagle Project this might be for you…  A Mountain View High School Art instructor needs a storage cabinet constructed on campus near the Art building. He claims to already have lumber and school approval.  Some hardware may need to be acquired.  Contact for more information.

Reminder: Need some scouting gear? Have something you no longer need? Read on…

Scouts and parents:

  • Do you have outdoor gear that is still in great condition but outgrown or no longer needed?

  • Would you be interested in selling it to another scout?

We bet there is a lot of gear in our storage that is no longer in use. We'd like to find out if there is enough interest in selling and buying to set aside time during a Tuesday meeting later this month or in March as a gear flea market.

Please think about your outgrown/unused gear and think about your needs for spring and summer hiking and camping. Then fill out the survey here.
