T33 Weekly Blast: March 20

March 25: First Year Campout

April 1: Cycling Le Tour de LAPV

Scoutmaster Corner

Saturday, 15 Scouts and six adults took a docent-led three mile, 2 ½ hour tour at Aňo Nuevo State Preserve to observe the last of the Elephant Seals before they all head back out to sea on one of the lengthy migrations.  All of the really large “alpha” males and most of the females were gone, leaving only a few “beta” males and females behind with all of the “weaners”.  There are no more pups as they are now much larger and almost ready to head out to sea on their own.  Once the weaners have their brown fur molt off to reveal their silver fur, they too, will be gone.  The weather was great, and we all had our lunch outside the historic horse barn where the office, store and interpretive center are located.  Our docent, Sarah, was a lot of fun and so knowledgeable.  This is a trip worth doing again.  Many thanks to George Poppitz as our Scout-in-Charge, and Caroline Tice, who made all the reservations and coordination as the Activity Coordinator.

Congratulations to Jack Crane, Cameron Cummins, Sam Love, Ben Tice and Justin Valestra for being elected to the Order of the Arrow.  They were called-out for the honor at last Tuesday’s meeting.  Thanks to Doug MacLeod for coordinating and conducting the election and call-out, and to the Arrowmen who participated in the call-out Tuesday.

This Tuesday

Main Troop -   Patrol Meetings; Continuing with the Physical Fitness theme – backpacking and hiking fitness presentation, backpack loading and wearing competition (activities with backpacks on).

First Year Program – First Year Scouts work on some Scout rank requirements and planning for the campout this weekend.
