Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast.net

Sunday, 20 Scouts in newly elected Leadership and Appointed Positions attended and completed the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST).  Congratulations, Scouts!  A big Thank You to Jun Kim, Doug MacLeod and Ted Marcopulos for your time and effort!

THIS Tuesday

The incoming First Year Scouts join the Troop and start their initial training with Mr. Kim and Mr. Stanley.  Main Troop will have the newly elected Senior Patrol, Patrol Leaders, Troop Guides and Scouts in Appointed Positions conduct the Leadership Induction Ceremony, the OA Call-Out, and a Topo map competition and navigation games.

PoR credit (2nd Call)

If you have served in a leadership position for the past 6 months you have one more responsibility.  You need to talk with your Patrol Advisor to review your performance against the rubric for your position.  He will then determine how much credit you will earn.

Progress Reports

The last weekend in February Mr. Browning sent emails to all Scouts and their parents with their progress reports.  If you did not receive a report please let him or Chris Webb know.  Please take a look to see what requirements you need to complete to advance to the next rank.  If you have any questions please work directly with your Patrol Advisor.  See http://troop33.org/leadership for a list of Patrol Advisors.  If you don’t know which patrol you are in, see http://troop33.org/roster and attend more meetings!  If you are listed as “Unassigned” you should join a patrol and attend more meetings!

Every year a different troop hosts this dinner. This year is Troop 33' s turn. Come see your fellow Troop 33 scouts receive their Scout of the Year awards and adults receive their Flame of Leadership awards.

We need adults and scouts to help with the District Awards Dinner on March 7th. Our troop is hosting this event this year, so let’s pull together and show how great our troop is. To help, scouts must be in full uniform with shirts tucked in. We need senior patrol to help with the event as well as for flag ceremony. Pizza provided for scouts that help.

On March 4th Scoutmaster Brent Browning will be receiving the Silver Beaver Award, one of Scouting highest adult awards at the Council's Award dinner held at the Elks Lodge 223 West 20th Avenue San Mateo, CA 94401.  If any parent and scout is interested in joining me and attending the dinner you can find details at the pacsky site here . Do let me know if you plan to attend.

Reminder: Den Chiefs Needed!

This is a great way to earn leadership credit, while helping out our local cub scouts and it’s not too late to sign up as Den Chief !

Bear Den 5 in Pack 426 (3rd graders) has an opening for a den chief. They generally meet 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 4:30-5:30pm in Sunnyvale.

If you're interested, please contact Mr Blasing

Reminder: Life Scouts – Eagle Project Available

If you are a Life Scout and need an Eagle Project this might be for you…  A Mountain View High School Art instructor needs a storage cabinet constructed on campus near the Art building. He claims to already have lumber and school approval.  Some hardware may need to be acquired.  Contact brent.browning@gmail.com for more information.

Reminder: Need some scouting gear? Have something you no longer need? Read on…

Scouts and parents:

  • Do you have outdoor gear that is still in great condition but outgrown or no longer needed?

  • Would you be interested in selling it to another scout?

We bet there is a lot of gear in our storage that is no longer in use. We'd like to find out if there is enough interest in selling and buying to set aside time during a Tuesday meeting later this month or in March as a gear flea market.

Please think about your outgrown/unused gear and think about your needs for spring and summer hiking and camping. Then fill out the survey here.
