Not much happened this past week, but there is a lot going on this week:

White Water Rafting

Philmont Crews Backpacking and Hike

Order of the Arrow Induction Weekend

Look for announcements Friday night and further informational e-mails for each event.

I am out of town all week, so Peter Stanley is taking over the Scoutmaster duties.

This Tuesday

Main Troop will be having a presentation by the San Jose Spiders, followed up with Frisbee demonstrations, skills training and some competition.

The First Year Program Scouts will conduct a regular meeting.

Green Bar (Senior Patrol, Patrol Leaders and Troop Guides) will meet with the SPL immediately after the meeting to discuss Annual Planning details and attendance at the next mandatory meeting.

A message from Paulo Chung, T33 quartermaster...

Hi all, this is the quartermaster.

I am asking those who went on the Camporee to return all equipment this Tuesday because Troop 33 is short on supplies for the Philmont trip. To all the other families, we are also wondering if you have any water filters, Half Dome2+ tents, and jet boils lying around in your homes or garages that didn’t make it back to the cage after other camping trips. Now is the time to bring them back!

Also, if anyone does have this kind of equipment to lend the Philmont Scouts for the trip, that would be appreciated because if they don’t have tents they will be sleeping on the ground and could freeze to death and we do want to make sure all the scouts make it out alive. We also need water filters because we want the Scouts to drink clean water so they won’t get sick: We need jet boils so they can cook food to recharge their energy.

A message from Mr. Stanley…

Hey scouts it’s time we want to hear from your for our annual planning

We are currently planning on what to do next year and your input matters

A message from Justin Cai, Senior Patrol Leader…

This year's PacSky NYLT 2018 is currently recruiting attendees. NYLT is a week-long summer leadership training program in Boulder Creek where attendees are placed into a patrol of people they don't know and must work together as a patrol to cook, lead, learn leadership skills, and complete team-building games. Currently, they are in need of more attendees, and I think many Troop 33 Scouts would be a great fit for NYLT.

If you are interested, contact Justin Cai @ justinhongcai@gmail.com

You can visit http://www.pacsky.org/Training/Youth/nylt for details on registration and NYLT.

New First Year Advancement Coordinator needed

As you can imagine volunteers move on after their scouts age-out. So we need a new Advancement Coordinator specifically for the First Year program. The bulk of the job is weekly entering data into our TroopMaster system after Tom Poppitz (semi-weekly) enters that same data into our Google Tracking Sheets for each FY scout. The work generally isn't time-urgent except when we approach Board of Reviews, when some data-double-checking might be necessary. But our FY rank advancements generally come in "batches" so that is only an issue 3 or 4 times a year (see job description below).

Please let us know if you can take on this role for us. Please contact Tom Poppitz for more information: poppitz@comcast.net

First Year Advancement Coordinator job description

  • Works closely with the First Year Director (via google spreadsheet) and records first year scout rank advancements and special awards in TroopMaster database

  • Using info from the Activity Reports provided by the ScoutMaster In Charge, records First Year activities in TroopMaster database

  • Periodically reviews database and verifies it is current and accurate, especially prior to scheduled Board of Review and Court of Honor dates

  • Attends monthly troop Committee meetings (90min once a month) (recommended, but not required)

  • Time commitment:  Approximately 45 min-1 hour per week

Service Opportunities:

Fleur de Lis (knock out)

Scouts do you need more service hours to get to your next rank?

Do you need conservation service hours?

The council has arranged a cleanup day at Boulder Creek.

If interested you need to sign up directly with the Pacific Skyline Council.

If we have enough interest we can carpool the scouts up there and have an adult

(doesn’t need to be a scoutmaster) stay and supervise the scouts.

Boulder Creek Cleanup Weekend - May 12

Join us for general work in camp at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation.

Open to Boy Scouts (not Cub Scouts) and adults.

Youth must have adults attend with them. Please bring a lunch.

Learn more and register.

Activity Coordinator: Jessica Chang

How: Click here to sign up

Details here

Annually, Troop 33 Scouts, their families, and friends, join fellow Cub, Boy, and Girl Scouts from all over the Bay area to place an American flag at each of the 112,700 graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno in honor of the men and women who bravely served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice. There is no better way to start the Memorial Weekend than by participating in this solemn event while earning Service hours for your next rank and a commemorative patch.

Agenda

We will assemble at the LAUMC parking lot at 7:00 AM and leave for the cemetery no later than 7:15AM.  A brief Opening Ceremony will begin at 8:30AM followed by the placing of the flags in our designated area. We will be back at LAUMC no later than noon.

Reminder: Board of Review dates

Scouts wanting a Board of Review should send Mrs. Stanley at marilynb@stanford.edu a  note before the deadline. Scouts are encouraged to request their own review.

Parent volunteers are also needed!

May 22 with deadline to request May 9

Court of Honor is June 5
