Friday the Green Bar (SPL, ASPL’s, Patrol Leaders and Troop Guides) met for their first Annual Planning meeting to determine what activities the Troop will conduct next year.  They will meet again on May 22nd to finalize their list of activities and then put them into the calendar.  Once approved by the committee in June, the next year’s activities will be posted to a new Activities page on the web site.

Saturday, Mattie Coolen and his wife, Cornelia, instructed the First Year Scouts in orienteering, measuring the height of objects, and estimating distances at Bedwell Park in Menlo Park.  It was a very nice day, the instruction was excellent and the Scouts did very well on all activities.  Thanks to the Coolens for their hard work.

A reminder that Scouts are to wear the proper uniform, and flip-flops are not the official footwear.  More importantly, since the Troop does conduct many physically active events and games, it is not safe to conduct/play in these activities with flip-flops.  Please wear the prescribed footwear (as well as the rest of the proper uniform) to Scout meetings and events.  Take pride in your wear of the Scout uniform – it tells others of your pride and that you care.

Mark your calendars: Annual end-of-year picnic is June 9, 5:30 to 8pm

Folks, mark your calendars for the troop’s annual end-of-year picnic to be held on Tuesday evening, June 9th, from 5:30 to 8pm.  This year, the picnic will be held in Shoup Park on University Ave in Los Altos.  We’ll have our usual assortment of burgers and hot dogs with a vegetarian option.  Families will be asked to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share, depending on the first letter of their last name:

A-H - please bring a side dish

I - P - please bring a salad

Q - Z - please bring a dessert

There will be signups for grillers, set up crew and shoppers (adult positions) as well as some scouts to help direct traffic soon - please sign up if you can help!


May 26 is final Board of Review for the school year

Next Board of Board of Review will be May 26, and is the last one for the school year.  Deadline is May 13 to request a review.  Please send Mrs. Stanley an email.


Parents are needed to help with reviews.  Please let Marilyn Stanley know if you are able to help on May 26.


Memorial Day Flag Placement  May 23

Annually, Troop 33 Scouts, their families and friends join fellow Cub, Boy and Girl scouts from all over our area to honor the men and women who bravely served our country by placing an American flag at each of the 112,700 graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

This activity will take place on Saturday, May 23rd. We will meet at LAUMC at 7am and carpool up to San Bruno. There is no better way to start the Memorial Weekend than by participating in this solemn event while earning service hours for your next rank and a commemorative patch. Sign ups now open from the event activity page.

Volunteering opportunities at LAUMC annual rummage sale

LAUMC is having their annual rummage sale!  Troop 33's help is always appreciated.  There are several ways scouts and their families can help!


Volunteer to work before, during or after the sale. It’s fun! The rummage sale is run by the United Methodist Women's group (UMW) and they need volunteers of all ages and interests to help sort, price, and sell.


UMW will set up in Creekside Monday, May 11, through Thursday, May 14, 9:00am – 9:00pm and have an online sign-up form available this year, and you can use this link to sign up.


Scouts (grade 10 and older) and parents are needed for cashiering.  Drop-in volunteers are also welcome, however!

Donate to the sale. Bring your treasures to Creekside on Tuesday, May 12, or Wednesday, May 13, 9:00am – 8:00pm.


NOTE: UMW cannot accept large furniture or very heavy items, unwashed or torn clothing, or anything broken. Please, no outdated computers, no computer monitors except working flat screens, and no large exercise equipment.


Shop at the sale on Friday, May 15, 8:00am – 6:00pm, and Saturday, May 16, 8:00am – 2:00pm. We hope to see you there!


And Saturday, at 2 p.m. scouts can help with clean up after the rummage sale.


Hours worked will count towards service hours.  Class B uniform is appropriate.

This activity is for the First Year scouts and any scouts who need to complete Second Class 8B and 8C and First Class 9B and 9C.


We will be meeting at Woodland Vista Swim & Racquet Club on Saturday, May 30th from 10am until noon to complete these  requirements.

This is Sam Kaplan and I am the Troop 33 librarian and I have a few announcements about the Troop 33 library

  • I will be available to issue MB books at the next three troop meetings starting May 19th for Scouts heading to Camps Emerald Bay and Oljato.

  • I would also like everyone on this  list below to look for the book you checked out. Please bring the books to the next meeting if you are done using them.

  • I am also asking all troop members to please donate any book that you own. Please don't feel obligated to donate your books if you want to keep them.

Sign up for a fun mountain bike ride at the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve.  It is free! The troop pays for the cost of pizza and drinks after the ride. For details and sign up link click here.


NOTE: If this your first time riding a mountain bike with the troop, it is mandatory to do one of the training rides preceding the event on Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th (click in one of the dates to sign-up) from 2PM to 4PM at the Pearson- Arastradero Preserve.


NOTE: If you signed-up or you are thinking of joining us for the ride (or the training rides) and you haven't had your bike checked, there will be a bike check on next troop meeting on May 5th - Bring your bike!

Sign ups are now open for a fun-filled, thrilling weekend on the American River!  On May 15-17, join us for two nights of camping and a full-day of Class II-III whitewater rafting on one of the most popular rivers in the U.S.   Cost is $190pp and the deadline to sign up is May 5, 2015.

The National Model Railroad Association is hosting a Railroading Merit Badge clinic on Saturday 16 May in Newark. I encourage scouts interested in either real railroads or railroad modeling to attend.
