Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

This past Friday to Sunday the two Philmont crews backpacked and hiked the strenuous Sunol to Del Valle trail, covering over 19 miles and over 6000 feet of elevation gain and loss.  The weather was not too hot, and the scenery and views were fantastic.  The crews all did very well, cooked their “Philfood” meals and had fun.  Lots of thanks go to Julie Crane for setting up the activity as the Activity Coordinator, Deepak Jain for making the reservations well in advance, and all the parents that drove either on Friday or Sunday to drop off and pick up the Scouts as this was a point-to-point trip.

This Tuesday

Green Bar Scouts are required to attend the PLC at 6 pm in Room 9.

Due to a church activity conflict, we will not be meeting in Creekside Tuesday.  The Main Troop will meet in the Youth Room (directly across from the Creekside facility) and the First Year Scouts will be meeting in Room 9.  There will be Scouts out front helping to direct Scouts to the correct room.

Main Troop Scouts will have a demonstration and instruction by the Adventure Patrol.  Due to the change in venue, there will not be an exercise by the E-Prep merit badge Scouts.  That will be during the May 24 meeting.

First Year Scouts will continue with their advancement skills and requirements with lots of Scoutmaster Conferences to be conducted.

Please consider donating to the Friends of Scouting Campaign through May 16

Elaine Blasing eblasing@mac.com

It is still the “Friends of Scouting” campaign going on.  This is where we support our local Boy Scout Chapter with a donation to help cover the maintenance associated with Camp Oljato, Camp Cutter, Boulder Creek Scout Reservations and covers the cost of our wonderful Palo Alto and Foster City Council offices.  The council’s budget is about $15.50/month or $185/year per scout.  This campaign is different from our troop dues which were collected in the fall and goes directly to our troop for events, equipment, supplies, badges, etc.

Please don’t forget to give to "Friends of Scouting" at the following website:

Please choose the Stanford District, Troop/Unit #33

Memorial Day Flag Placement, Saturday, May 28

Laurie Hartford lauriehartford@comcast.net.

Annually, Troop 33 Scouts, their families and friends join fellow Cub, Boy and Girl scouts from all over our area to honor the men and women who bravely served our country by placing an American flag at each of the 112,700 graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

This activity will take place on Saturday, May 28th. We will meet at LAUMC at 7am and carpool up to San Bruno. There is no better way to start the Memorial Weekend than by participating in this solemn event while earning service hours for your next rank and a commemorative patch. Sign ups now open from the Troop 33 Activity Page.

After the Flag Placement on Saturday May 28th, you might want to join Mr. Pauly on this beautiful, 8 mile medium-hard hike with beautiful views. See the Troop 33 Activity Page for all the details. Because the hike is medium-hard, some hiking experience is recommended. Sign ups are now open on the Troop 33 Activity Page. The hike is free but you will need to bring a signed Activity Consent form to Mrs. Hartford at the beginning of either the May 17th or May 24th troop meeting.
