Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

For not having a Troop meeting last week, Troop 33 was nonetheless busy.  Carl Gabrielson led 18 Scouts and 8 adults on the always fun and exciting Monte Bello mountain bike ride on Tuesday.  Peter Stanley still had a meeting with his  First Year Scouts following that and knocked out quite a few more achievements.

Friday through Sunday, Peter Monaco led 10 Scouts on the whitewater rafting  trip on the South Fork of the American River.  I can’t wait to see those pictures.  Saturday, Brent Browning had 8 Scouts take his Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge at Cutter Scout Reservation.  It looked like it was a very full day.  This just goes to show how active the Troop is and the myriad of activities offered to the Scouts.  Thanks so much to all the adult leaders for leading these events and to the Activity Coordinators for taking the time to make these events happen!

THIS Tuesday

Main Troop is having a movie night (not like the one last fall).  First Year’s continue with achievements toward rank.

Camp Oljato Scouts and Parents Meeting May 20

Please join us for the ever-popular Camp Oljato Orientation Meeting!

WHEN? 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 20

WHERE? Creekside Room, LAUMC (where Scout Meetings take place).

WHAT? This is your opportunity to get the inside scoop on camp:

Where is camp?

What’s the weather like?

What’s our camp site like?

What kit should I bring?

What should I not bring?

Where will I be sleeping?

What do I do about medications?

Will I need money?

What will I be doing all day?

Come along on Wednesday to hear Mr. Webb answer all these questions and more. Please note: scouts are not required to wear uniform for this meeting.

Parents needed for May 26 Board of Review

Mrs Stanley

Parents are needed to help with Board of Reviews on May 26.  We have several first year scouts participating in the Board of Review as well as many older scouts.  We currently have 24 scouts looking to do reviews, and I need another 20(!) parents who can help with reviews.

We'll start when the announcements are over at approximately 7:45 p.m. and should be done close to 9 p.m.

Please let me know if you can help on Tuesday.  Please email me at

If you have not done a Board of Review before, it's fairly straight forward and I can cover what is needed prior the review.  If you have not had a chance to volunteer time to the troop and need to, this is a great opportunity to help in a very meaningful and fulfilling way.

Memorial Day Flag Placement: May 23

Laurie Hartford

Annually, Troop 33 Scouts, their families and friends join fellow Cub, Boy and Girl scouts from all over our area to honor the men and women who bravely served our country by placing an American flag at each of the 112,700 graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. This activity will take place on Saturday, May 23rd. We will meet at LAUMC at 7am and carpool up to San Bruno. There is no better way to start the Memorial Weekend than by participating in this solemn event while earning service hours for your next rank and a commemorative patch.

Activity Consent Forms due by TOMORROW, Tuesday, May 19th. Please either bring the form to the Laurie Hartford at the beginning of the troop meeting or contact her to make other arrangements.

Earn community service hours? Here is an opportunity.

Santa Clara Aquamaids (SCA), the prestigious national synchronized swimming club, will have a free and fun show at 1:00pm-2:00pm on Memorial Day May 25th. Everyone is welcome to come and watch the synchro show.

On the day of event May 25th, they need 4-6 volunteers to help direct the parking traffic. The time is 11:30am-1:30pm on May 25th in Santa Clara International Swimming Center at 2625 Patricia Dr, Santa Clara, CA 95051.

This is a great opportunity for our Scouts to earn community service hours. After the show, if our Scouts would like, they can also help them tear down the tents and other cleanups with additional community service hours.

The SCA will provide Certificate of Participation to recognize Scout's community service hours volunteered to this event.

Interested Scouts, please contact Bin Hu <>
