Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

It is hard to believe, yet here we are at June 1st.  School is almost over, with many Troop 33 Scouts graduating from high school and heading off to college, a greater number of Scouts completing middle school and heading to high school, and all of the Troop’s activities for this year completed.  Troop 33 had over 30 major and minor activities, plus a Merit Badge Rally and Midway, and three separate merit badge courses between last September and this past weekend.  It has been an extremely busy and fun year (which seems to be the norm for this Troop!).  Next week we have our end-of-year picnic and Court of Honor, which is also our last meeting until August, when we resume Troop meetings again.  We will have one more Blast next Monday, and then we will not send out another until August, before the first meeting.  We will keep the web site updated throughout the summer.

For next week’s picnic, please be sure to look at the activity web page for the pot luck dish assignments and to sign up for grillers, and set up crews.

Saturday, Brent Browning completed his Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge class at Los Altos Rod and Gun Club and then at his home for three more Scouts (he ran an earlier class this month for a few other Scouts), and 20 of the First Year Scouts worked on their swimming requirements, which many of them completed.

THIS Tuesday

Main Troop will be conducting a scavenger hunt using their Boy Scout knowledge and skills to move between stations. First Year’s continue with achievements toward rank.

Sign ups open for end-of-year picnic on June 9, 5:30 to 8pm

Folks, sign up for the troop’s annual end-of-year picnic to be held on Tuesday evening, June 9th, from 5:30 to 8pm.  This year, the picnic will be held in Shoup Park on University Ave in Los Altos.  We’ll have our usual assortment of burgers and hot dogs with a vegetarian option.  Families will be asked to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share, depending on the first letter of their last name:

A-H - please bring a side dish

I - P - please bring a salad

Q - Z - please bring a dessert

You can also sign up to be grillers, set up crew and shoppers (adult positions) as well as some scouts to help direct traffic soon - please sign up if you can help!

It was the largest group of scouts this year, and it would not have been accomplished without their help!

First year Swimming

Peter Stanley peter.stanley@sap.com

On Saturday morning we had 20 scouts attend the 1st year swimming activity.

It was a great day hosted by the Stick Family at their club pool. We had 15 swimmers and 5 helper scouts.

They worked on second and first class swimming requirements, with most completing them.

And they all got a preview of what the swim test will be like at Camp Oljato, abet in warmer and clearer water.
