Memorial Day Flag Ceremony

On Saturday 35 Troop 33 scouts, with the help of 14 adults, joined hundreds more scouts to honor the 112,700 servicemen and women at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. Our scouts placed an American flag at each and every grave of these heroes who gave their last full measure of devotion to our country. This solemn event reminds us of the debt we can never repay, nor can we ever forget.

Busy weekend for Firsties

Our First Year families had a very busy weekend!  Friday night brought an Oljato Orientation Meeting, Saturday the Memorial Day Flags event, and Sunday morning brought First Year Swimming.  In addition to the BSA swim test, we practiced Reach/Throw/Row and Line Tender water rescue techniques in the pool.  Thanks to Alan Cyron for making it possible at his club's pool!

Saturday and Sunday several scouts and scoutmasters participated in a 16 hour Wilderness First Aid training class. Some even stayed longer and received their CPR certification. Scouts participating were Bryan Webb, Robert Stanley, and Ryan Livengood.  Adults included Jun Kim, Chris Webb, Doug MacLeod, Peter Stanley, Louie Daltchev, Rhett Livengood. Major thanks to Peter Stanley for all the organization and coordination putting this class together.

This Tuesday

This is the last regular meeting of the school year.

Main Troop will be participating in the Fitness Olympics.  Uniform is Class B and sneakers. No open-toed shoes.

First Year Scouts will be conducting knot relays.

Family Picnic needs an Activity Coordinator

The T33 Family picnic is coming up on Tuesday, June 5 and we need an Activity Coordinator.  This is a potluck event where families bring dishes to share. Troop 33 provides the hot dogs, hamburgers, and fixings.  Duties include setting up the sign up page and collecting Consent Forms, purchasing the food, and making the reservation at a park where it'll be held. Please let Amy Mendenhall know if you can coordinate this event.

New First Year Advancement Coordinator needed

As you can imagine volunteers move on after their scouts age-out. So we need a new Advancement Coordinator specifically for the First Year program. The bulk of the job is weekly entering data into our TroopMaster system after Tom Poppitz (semi-weekly) enters that same data into our Google Tracking Sheets for each FY scout. The work generally isn't time-urgent except when we approach Board of Reviews, when some data-double-checking might be necessary. But our FY rank advancements generally come in "batches" so that is only an issue 3 or 4 times a year (see job description below).

Please let us know if you can take on this role for us. Please contact Tom Poppitz for more information:

First Year Advancement Coordinator job description

  • Using info from the Activity Reports provided by the ScoutMaster In Charge, records First Year activities in TroopMaster database

  • Periodically reviews database and verifies it is current and accurate, especially prior to scheduled Board of Review and Court of Honor dates
