Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

OK, so I have been on many awesome activities and adventures since joining Troop 33, but Saturday’s Big City – SF trip was the awesome-most!  Thanks to Charlie Crane (father of Charlie and Jack), who is a San Francisco Fire Department Battalion Chief, 25 Scouts and adult volunteers were able to visit Engine Station 35, which is the home to the SFFD’s fire boats.  After learning about the equipment and what it does on Engine 35 (fire truck), and then getting to shoot water through a fire hose, we all heading out into the bay on the fire boat “Phoenix.”  Our route took us around Alcatraz Island, then down the city water front to ATT Park and McCovey Cove.  The Scouts were able to steer the boat as well as maneuver the front water gun with the water streaming out in full force.  The day was clear, warm, but windy, and everybody said this was the best part of the trip.  Later we all went to Treasure Island for lunch looking back at the city, and then saw firefighting and rescue demonstrations/exercises with two engines and one ladder truck.  One lucky Scout got to go inside the building to be rescued.  The firefighters did a great job and were extremely friendly and informative with the Scouts.  Later, we went back to Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf in the city for free time (seems like a lot of Scouts found the candy stores), then it was dinner and home.  I cannot thank Charlie Crane enough for the greatest tour you could have in San Francisco, and to Barbara Mein as the Activity Coordinator.  Also thanks to the ASM’s and parents that drove and helped keep order and calm throughout.

Next Tuesday there is no regular Troop meeting, but there is the Monte Bello mountain bike ride instead (you must sign up and be qualified to ride – see the activity web page), and the First Year Scouts will be meeting at an alternate site.

THIS Tuesday

Main Troop has the “Mystery” meeting after announcements.  First Year’s continue with achievements toward rank.

Memorial Day Flag Placement: May 23

Laurie Hartford

Annually, Troop 33 Scouts, their families and friends join fellow Cub, Boy and Girl scouts from all over our area to honor the men and women who bravely served our country by placing an American flag at each of the 112,700 graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

This activity will take place on Saturday, May 23rd. We will meet at LAUMC at 7am and carpool up to San Bruno. There is no better way to start the Memorial Weekend than by participating in this solemn event while earning service hours for your next rank and a commemorative patch. Sign ups now open from the event activity page.
