Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Saturday, 22 Scouts and six adults went on a cruise on San Francisco Bay on one of the San Francisco Fire Department’s Fire Boats.  Although there was some rain, we lucked out and had very light rain or sprinkles while on the boat.  Then the Scouts walked to the Exploratorium for lunch and then a few hours of sights and sounds and gadgets and plenty of hands-on events.  This is a cool and fun place!  Huge thanks to Charlie Crane (SFFD Battalion Fire Chief) for setting up the fire boat ride, and Kimberly Dickerson for coordinating it all as the Activity Coordinator.  Bryan Webb did a fine job as the Scout-in-Charge, and thanks to Michael and Dolly Love, Robin Livengood, Rick Valestra and Carl Gabrielson for driving.

I hope all the Scout Mom’s had a great Mother’s Day!

THIS Tuesday

There is no regular Troop meeting this Tuesday.  The First Year Scouts will be meeting at Loyola Elementary School at 7:30.

Memorial Day Flag Placement, Saturday, May 28

Laurie Hartford lauriehartford@comcast.net.

Annually, Troop 33 Scouts, their families and friends join fellow Cub, Boy and Girl scouts from all over our area to honor the men and women who bravely served our country by placing an American flag at each of the 112,700 graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.

This activity will take place on Saturday, May 28th. We will meet at LAUMC at 7am and carpool up to San Bruno. There is no better way to start the Memorial Weekend than by participating in this solemn event while earning service hours for your next rank and a commemorative patch. Sign ups now open from the Troop 33 Activity Page.

Day Hike at Montara Following Memorial Day Flag Placement, Saturday, May 28th

Laurie Hartford lauriehartford@comcast.net

Montara.jpg

After the Flag Placement on Saturday May 28th, you might want to join Mr. Pauly on this beautiful, 8 mile medium-hard hike with beautiful views. See the Troop 33 Activity Page for all the details. Because the hike is medium-hard, some hiking experience is recommended. Sign ups are now open on the Troop 33 Activity Page. The hike is free but you will need to bring a signed Activity Consent form to Mrs. Hartford at the beginning of either the May 17th or May 24th troop meeting.

Friends of Scouting Campaign through May 16

Elaine Blasing eblasing@mac.com

It is still the “Friends of Scouting” campaign going on.  This is where we support our local Boy Scout Chapter with a donation to help cover the maintenance associated with Camp Oljato, Camp Cutter, Boulder Creek Scout Reservations and covers the cost of our wonderful Palo Alto and Foster City Council offices.  The council’s budget is about $15.50/month or $185/year per scout.  This campaign is different from our troop dues which were collected in the fall and goes directly to our troop for events, equipment, supplies, badges, etc.

Please don’t forget to give to "Friends of Scouting" at the following website:

Please choose the Stanford District, Troop/Unit #33

http://pacsky.kintera.org/2016FOS

Since there isn’t a scout meeting this coming week (I believe there is a bike ride instead of the meeting), please feel free to mail the checks to me (682 Coral Court, Los Altos, 94024) or sign up on the above website.

Reminder: Sunol to Del Valle Shakedown Hike - May 13-15, 2016

Julie Crane jftcrane@gmail.com

This is a 19.5 mile, 6,000' elevation gain, 3-day, 2-night shakedown designed to give crew members a taste of longer distances, elevation gain/loss, and a multi-night trip.  Ask any Troop 33 Scout who has been to Philmont about this shakedown and they will tell you it was really hard but was a perfect test of whether they were ready for Philmont or not.  If you can survive Saturday at Sunol, you can survive any single day at Philmont.

This is a point-to-point hike, we need driver to drop-off at Sunol on Friday and pick up at Del Valle on Sunday.

For questions on an activity or event, contact the activity owner listed. As an activity owner to have your items included in the T33 Weekly blast, please submit them to Sundeep Gupta sundeep.gupta@gmail.com by 5 pm Sunday for the following week’s edition.
