Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Saturday morning, 16 Scouts participated in hanging the Scouting for Food door hangers on the homes in Los Altos. They handed out almost 1200 door hangers. Great work, Scouts! Thanks to Drishaan Jain as the Scout-in-Charge, Doug MacLeod as the Scoutmaster-in-Charge and to Anat Faigon for her work as the Activity Coordinator. And many thanks to the other adults that showed up and drove the Scouts around to their assigned neighborhoods.

WE STILL NEED MORE SCOUTS. Scouting-for–Food food pick up this Saturday, November 21. We only have six Scouts and three adults signed up, and we will need many more to pick up the food and deliver it to the staging area. This will only take about three hours, and the cause is a great one. Again, this event will earn you service hours credit. You can sign up on the Activities web page.

The final classes for the Merit Badge Rally is this Tuesday. Other than opening announcements, you will be spending all your evening in the merit badge class you signed up for. Uniform of the rally is Class A.

If you still have tents, patrol boxes or any other Troop gear, you must turn it in immediately. Ensure the equipment has been thoroughly cleaned, and attach an inventory sheet to indicate damage, missing pieces or supplies needing replenishing.

Remember to renew your registration for 2016

Need Help! - Remember to sign up for Scouting for Food Pick-Up on Nov 21

Terry Hahn tghahn@pacbell.net

Scouting For Food is an annual BSA service project conducted across the entire country. The food collected by this event goes to local food banks (in our case Second Harvest) to help those in our community who need assistance. On Saturday November 21st we will collect food from 9 am to noon (or when we’ve collected and turned in all the food) from the same areas where we distributed the door hangers last weekend. You will be credited Service Hours for your effort.

Our sign ups this year are running far behind what we need (historically about 20 scouts and 10 adults).  Helping others doesn’t get anymore basic than this.  Please participate in helping those in our community that would otherwise go hungry.

Sign up here.

Meet at the LAUMC parking lot at 9:00 am for zone and driver assignments, and maps.

Reminders

Deadline for next BoR is Nov 18

The next Board of Review is Tuesday, December 1.  Please sent Mrs. Stanley a note at marilynb@stanford.edu by the November 18 deadline to request one.

Brett Pauly

Note two important dates:

Gear discussion for parents this Tuesday, (11/10) 7:30 – 8:00 in Room 7.

Mandatory Pack Check:  Tuesday 11/17, 6:00 pm in Room 7.

Reminder: Backpacking in Pescadero Creek County Park, November 20-22

Join us for a beginner/intermediate backpacking trip through Pescadero Creek County Park. This vast parkland of 8,020 acres of land is truly one of the forgotten gems in the Santa Cruz Mountain Range. The area is adjacent to Sam McDonald, Memorial, and Portola Redwood parks. The park contains a significant amount of forest and watershed related resources.  Pescadero Creek, which flows all year round, is a major Steelhead spawning stream. The stream is an important steelhead trout habitat and may be restored for coho salmon.

This is a PERFECT trip for those who are new to backpacking.

If an older scout is interested in being the SIC, please contact Mr. Pauly.

For details or to sign up, please check here.  Contact Susan Biesty if you have any questions.
