Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

You may not have felt it on this side of the mountains, but for those on this past weekend’s backpacking trip to Pescadero Creek Park, it poured most of Saturday.  But is was a great weekend for the Scouts as they muscled through the weather for an excellent hike and two nights of camping.  A big thanks to Brett Pauly and Jian Li for setting the event up, and to Doug MacLeod, who stepped in to lead the group when Brett had to bow out (we missed you, Brett!), and Alan Cyron to ensuring we had the proper adult-to-Scout ratio to enjoy the trip.  Jack Monaco performed admirably as the Scout-in-Charge.

Upcoming events that Scouts can still sign up for include (with more information below):

Wreath Sales

Salvation Army Box Making

Citizenship in the Community MB LASD Board Meeting

Sky High (in lieu of a Troop meeting on December 9th)

It looks like the Go-Karting activity will need to be moved to a later date (February or March).

THIS Tuesday

Movie night!  All the Troop can participate - bring your camp chair, or sleeping mat or something comfortable relax on the floor with to watch the movie.  Your SPL will be sending out more details about tomorrow night.

If I don’t see you tomorrow evening, I wish you and your family a healthy, safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

Camp Emerald Bay is an award-winning premier camp destination for over 4500 Boy Scouts each summer.  It is located on the west end of Santa Catalina Island 22 miles off the coast of Los Angeles. Scouts can earn merit badges, pet a shark at the Pennington Marine Science Center, snorkel/canoe/kayak in beautiful coves, hike, stargaze during Emerald Bay's signature overnight experience War Canoe, and so much more!

Scouts have up to 3 merit badge or rank advancement opportunities.  Emerald Bay also offers other camp programs and troop bonding activities to choose from during free time.  For example, scouts can join Handicraft and Nature Staff during open sessions to stamp a leather belt, carve an original neckerchief slide, or hike.  Free time may be used to visit the Emerald Bay Ship's Store for scouting supplies, merit badge materials, souvenirs, and snacks/drinks.

Campers stay in 2-person wall tents (wooden platform to 2 cots/mattresses.)  Meals (salad bar and vegetarian options available) are provided in the newly remodeled Dining Hall.
