Saturday many Scouts had loads of fun and expanded their mountain climbing skills at Planet Granite.  They enjoyed “bouldering” and the climbing the heights (wearing all the safety equipment, of course!)  Thanks to Mattie Coolen and the other adults who helped on Saturday, and Laurie Hartford for organizing this event.

Sunday, Peter Stanley was able to get a good number of First Year Scouts through the swimming requirement necessary for Second Class.  Thanks to Susan Stick for assisting Peter and setting this up.

Scouting for Food Door Hanger Drop Off is this Saturday, November 8th, and the Food Pick Up is the following Saturday, November 15th.  The web pages are available for signing up.  Scouts can do either or both, and service hours will be credited.

Activity Coordinator Signups still open; one urgent request

We still need several Activity Coordinators (ACs). Thank you to everyone who has signed up.

Please sign up even if you have never been an AC. We will train you. Link to signups is at the top of the activities page.

This is a critical role for our troop to be able to offer as many activities as we do. Plus each family is expected to volunteering two types of roles every year and this role will fulfill one of your volunteer roles for the troop. An AC is required to sign up for one event per year. Also as an AC you or your scout do not need to attend the event. If we do not get an AC for an activity we will need to cancel it.

We have some exciting opportunities for AC coming up that still need assignment:

Several activities (major and minor) in the winter and spring.

Our large summer trips (e.g. Camp Oljato) need ACs now to start signups and collect money, etc.

Scouting For Food is an annual BSA service project conducted across the entire country. The food collected by this event goes to local food banks (in our case Second Harvest) to help those in our community who need assistance. On Saturday November 8th from 9 am to noon we will distribute the door hangers that announce the event; on Saturday November 15th we will collect food from the same area also from 9 am to noon (or when we’ve collected and turned in all the food). You may sign up for either or both of the days. You will be credited Service Hours for your effort.

Meet at the LAUMC parking lot at 9:00 am for zone and driver assignments, door hanger issuance and maps.

Because of holidays, school field trips and the merit badge rally, the next Board of Review will be combined for November and December. The Board of Review will be December 2 with a November 18 deadline.

Swim Requirements completed

On a beautiful Sunday morning 20 first year scouts took part in completing many of their swim requirements. We would like to thank the Stick Family for letting us use their community pool as well as Mrs. Stick for being the activity coordinator.

We had help from several parents including Mrs. Kim, Mrs. Stick and Mr. Coolen. We also had help from several older scouts to help teach the boys water rescue skills.  They included William Stanley, David McAllister, Kyle Kim, Charlie Crane.

This was a great accomplishment for our First year scouts in their progress towards their first class requirement.


Reminder: Pescadero Creek County Park backpacking Nov 21 to 23

Join us for an advanced beginner backpacking trip through Pescadero Creek County Park on Nov 21st to 23rd, the weekend before Thanksgiving. All Scouts

who have finished their first year in the troop are encouraged to join.  Pescadero Creek County Park has 8,020 acres of land and contains a significant amount of forest and watershed related resources. Pescadero Creek, which flows all year round, is a major Steelhead spawning stream.  For details, please check here . Contact  Jian Li if any questions.

Want to spend more time with other older Scouts?

Announcing the Adventure Patrol!

We have formed a new patrol specifically for Scouts in 10th-12th grade.  The Adventure Patrol will meet on the first Tuesday of every month during the Troop meeting to plan activities and outings.  The goal is 3-4 outings per year ranging from bowling to rafting to shooting to backpacking.  Scouts will choose, plan, and lead outings with help from adult leadership.  The Adventure Patrol is a “virtual” patrol meaning that Scouts are still members of the regular patrol and can enjoy all of the benefits of Troop meetings and activities AND Adventure Patrol meetings and activities.


  • 10th-12th grade

  • Star Scout or higher

  • 30 or more camping nights

  • Camping, First Aid, and Personal Fitness merit badges

Please note that Scouts with positions of responsibility in the main troop like SPL, ASPL, Troop Guide, etc. can be members of the Adventure Patrol but their PoR takes priority.  Those Scouts will miss monthly meetings but can still attend outings.  All Adventure Patrol Scouts can attend all Troop activities and will be encouraged to give back through leadership and service to the Troop.

Reminder: STEM Merit Badge Midway Registration - Reg opens Mon, Oct 13

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Midway will be held on Sat, Dec 6 at Ralston Middle School. This midway offers merit badge classes that are STEM-related. Registration for in-council Scouts opened Mon, Oct 13 here. Click on the "Activities" tab to see which classes will be offered. Registration for out-of-council Scouts began Mon, Oct 20. Reminder: Den Chiefs needed

Our Den Chief program is off to a great start this year!  13 scouts are currently working towards securing their Den assignments!  However, we continue to get requests for Den Chiefs from several local Packs.  We currently have at least another 3 opportunities, and probably more.   So if you're interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing to get the ball rolling (
