Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

I would like to acknowledge and thank all the Scouts that participated in LAUMC’s Compassion Week October 4 – 11.  This has not only been a great way to support and give to our community, but also the church, who has been a great host for Troop 33 over the decades.

The Scouts and adults that attended the World Scout Jamboree in Japan had a write-up in the Los Altos Town Crier.  You can find the article at this link

THIS Tuesday

It is Webelos Open House for the Troop.  After opening ceremonies and announcements (please keep them short), all Scouts will participate in a welcoming event for visiting Webelos Scouts.  After that, the Webelos Scouts will accompany the First Year Program Scouts to see what they do and engage in some skill projects.  The visiting Webelos parents will attend a presentation from the Troop leadership, and then have a chance to see their sons with the First Year Scouts.  The main Troop will conduct basic Patrol skills competition, followed by a soccer tournament.

Have you see Zeke?

Brent Browning

Anyone seen Zeke?  Zeke teaches the Totin’ Chip?

Webelo's Open House, October 13

As a reminder, we will be hosting Webelos at our Open House on October 13th.  This is our chance to showcase Troop 33 as a great place to learn and grow.  We encourage as many active scouts to attend as possible, and please wear proper uniform.  Please also make our Webelo guests and their parents feel welcome and tell them about your experience with the T33.

Merit Badge Rally Nov 3, 10 and 17 or

Our annual Troop 33 Merit Badge Rally is coming soon!  The dates are Nov. 3, Nov. 10 and Nov 17 during our normal troop meeting time.  Scouts who participate will take ONE merit badge class with 3 sessions.  There will be no regular troop meeting, so ALL SCOUTS (including first years) need to sign up for a merit badge class.  This year we are offering 7 Eagle-required and 4 elective merit badges.  Sign-ups will open tomorrow evening by going to the activity web page here.

Reminder: Merit Badge Counselor Training – Tuesday October 20, 7:45pm

Are you ready to help?  Thanks to Donna Marcopulos, we have arranged a Merit Badge Counselor training class during our Troop meeting on Tuesday, October 20th.  With a short training class, you can be available for the scouts in our troop to guide them through merit badges where you have special interests or skills — see the full list here:  Our first need is for assistant counselors for the Merit Badge Rally for the troop in November.  Please make sure you’ve completed the short Youth Protection Training online, print the certificate, and bring it to the class on October 20th.  Thank you for your help, and the scouts thank you, too!  Any questions, please contact

Youth Protection Training can be completed online here

Reminder: A call for Den-Chiefs!

Mr Blasing

Scouts, if you've thought of being a Den-Chief, now is best chance to make it happen!  Our local cub scout leaders are starting to make their requests.  Last year, Troop 33 assigned more than 20 scouts to various local Packs.

If you're not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position.  As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local cub scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troop.

In general , anyone who meets the following guideline is a candidate for Den Chief:

- A Boy Scout who has been approved by their Scoutmaster to serve as a Den Chief, is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.  Den Chief Training (either on-line, classroom, or preferably both) is required.

The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year.  Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief service to Two Terms, maximum.  That gives other scouts an opportunity, and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.

If you are interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing (either at the Troop meetings or by email:, to get the ball rolling.  If you were a Den Chief last year, you will need to again receive Scoutmaster approval, and will need to coordinate the assignment through Mr. Blasing.

For questions on an activity or event, contact the activity owner listed. As an activity owner to have your items included in the T33 Weekly blast, please submit them to Sundeep Gupta by 5 pm Sunday for the following week’s edition.
