Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

Although Mountain Man Rendezvous was cancelled, Troop 33, along with a few other District Troops, pulled together its own Gold Rush Adventure, that ended up with seventeen different stations the Scouts could experience, which included candle making, rope making, tomahawk throwing, black powder gun shooting (BB guns for the Webelos Cub Scouts attending), archery, two-man saw log cutting, leather work, and more.  There were many adult leaders involved putting this together, but the main driver was Brent Browning, who without his drive and dedication, this event probably would not have happened.  Also, many thanks to Doug MacLeod, Alan Cyron, Mattie Coolen and Jun Kim for adding to the Troop leadership to pull this off.  We had about 33 Scouts and 10 Webelos attending and having a great time.  The weather was great, and so was the food.  Our Webelos recruiting event paid off!

The Merit Badge Rally starts next Tuesday, October 28th.  If you’ve not signed up for a merit badge, do it now.  The deadline for signing up is at 7 pm Tuesday, October 21st.  Anyone not signed up by then will not be able to “walk-on” to a merit badge on the 28th.  Sign up here:  https://sites.google.com/a/troop33.org/www/activities/2014/merit_badge_rally.

Scout-Orienteering is this Sunday.  This is a wonderful opportunity to hone and extend your land navigation skills.  Information and sign-up at:  https://sites.google.com/a/troop33.org/www/activities/2014/scout_o_orienteering.

Planet Granite is Saturday, November 1st.  Sign-up here:  https://sites.google.com/a/troop33.org/www/activities/2014/scout_o_orienteering.

THIS Tuesday

Main Troop will be having a Halloween costume display and competition, First Year program will be continuing First Class achievement tasks.  Also, there is a mandatory Perents Meeting, presented by the Troop leadership.  This is our report to the parents of the past year activities, achievements and accomplishments, plus our road ahead for the next year.  We would really like to see you there!

Mandatory Parents Meeting on Oct 21

Alan Cyron

A parent from each family is expected to attend a mandatory parents meeting tomorrow night in the Creekside side room starting at 7:45pm right after our opening ceremony. We will review the state of the Troop and introduce a new program.

Troop Merit Badge Rally

Deborah Schueren deborah@schuerens.com

The Merit Badge Rally starts next week - to find out your class assignment, open the Class Assignment file attached to the bottom of the MB Rally web page, which you can reach here.

The rally dates are Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov 11 during our normal troop meeting time - there will be no troop meeting on those nights.

If you still need to sign up, do it today!  The troop library will be open before and after this Tuesday’s meeting, so please get your merit badge book, read it and the worksheet, and come prepared next week.  We are offering 7 Eagle-required and 4 elective merit badges.  Please make sure you read the prerequisites and notes before signing up.  When you sign up, you specify first, second, and third choices, but you will only be taking one merit badge class (one MB class is 3 sessions) The sign-ups will be reviewed by the SMIC, coordinators and counselors, and priority will be given based on: need, rank, age, and date/time. Reminders

Reminder: Yosemite Expense reports

Judy Bergwerk judyb@alum.mit.edu

If you bought food or supplies for the Yosemite camping trip and haven’t yet turned in your expense form, please let me know. I’d like to close out this activity and need to know if there are still outstanding expenses.

Reminder: Activity Coordinator Signups still open

Kathleen McGall katom882002@yahoo.com

We still need several Activity Coordinators (ACs). Thank you to everyone who has signed up.

Please sign up even if you have never been an AC. We will train you. Link to signups is here or at the top of the activities page.

This is a critical role for our troop to be able to offer as many activities as we do. Plus each family is expected to volunteering two types of roles every year and this role will fulfill one of your volunteer roles for the troop. An AC is required to sign up for one event per year. Also as an AC you or your scout do not need to attend the event. If we do not get an AC for an activity we will need to cancel it.

We have some exciting opportunities for AC coming up that still need assignment:

1. Several activities in the winter and spring.

2. Our large summer trips (e.g. Camp Oljato) need ACs now to start signups and collect money, etc.

Please sign up to help!  Thank you!  Please contact me with any questions.

Reminder: Den Chiefs needed

Our Den Chief program is off to a great start this year!  13 scouts are currently working towards securing their Den assignments!  However, we continue to get requests for Den Chiefs from several local Packs.  We currently have at least another 3 opportunities, and probably more.   So if you're interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing to get the ball rolling (rblasing@me.com).

For questions on an activity or event, contact the activity owner listed. As an activity owner to have your items included in the T33 Weekly blast, please submit them to Sundeep Gupta sundeep.gupta@gmail.com by 5 pm Sunday for the following week’s edition.
