Scoutmaster Update

Chris Webb christopherawebb@comcast

This past Labor Day weekend, 24 Scouts and 14 adults and Scout siblings traveled to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park for camping and hiking.  Three different patrols hiked to Lembert Dome, Olmsted Point, Elizabeth Lake, May Lake and Mt. Hoffman, and Clouds Rest.  Hikes ranged from 5 miles to 15 miles, and all Scouts hiked at least two different routes over the two days.  Many thanks to Peter Monaco as the Scoutmaster-in-Charge, Mirtes Frediani as the Activity Coordinator, and Brandon Le as the Scout-in-Charge.  Also, thanks to the uniformed leaders and adult volunteers who provided transportation, meals and support: Charlie and Julie Crane, Jun and Kirsten Kim, Peter Stanley, Brett Pauly, Brian Mellea, Tom Poppitz, and Jason Bergendahl.

The Annual Parent Meeting has been moved from September 3rd to September 20th.  Also, the Court of Honor has been moved from September 27th to October 25th.

Next Tuesday is our first Boards of Review.  Scouts that are scheduled to attend have been identified and contacted.  As a major reminder, Scouts must be in their full Class A uniform (shirt, neckerchief and slide, Scout pants or shorts and belt, Scout socks, and Merit Badge sash if warranted).  This is an official event for rank advancement and Scouts need to present themselves in their most Scout-professional manner.  This is all part of their training and character building that leads to a productive and successful adulthood.

Be sure to scroll down in the message to see other important announcements.  Most Scouts do not see the Blast or look on line where it is posted, so parents, please be sure to share this with them, as most often, they do not share with you what they learned or were told at a Troop meeting.  The more you know of upcoming events, the better chance your Scout does and gets involved.

This Tuesday

Main Troop will be conducting the new leadership change and swearing-in, and then will conduct a Senior Patrol Hide and Seek with Scouting questions.

First Year Scouts will be conducting a Second Class physical fitness make-up at the Blach Middle School track at 6:15.  They will be working on their Trail to First Class requirements during the Scout meeting.

Reminder: A call for Den-Chiefs. Nine positions available!

Mr Blasing rblasing@me.com

Scouts, if you've thought of being a Den-Chief, now is best chance to make it happen!  Our local cub scout leaders are starting to make their requests.  Last year, Troop 33 assigned more than 20 scouts to various local Packs.

If you're not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position.  As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local cub scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troop.

In general , anyone who meets the following guideline is a candidate for Den Chief:

- A Boy Scout who has been approved by their Scoutmaster to serve as a Den Chief, is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.  Den Chief Training (either on-line, classroom, or preferably both) is required.

The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year.  Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief service to Two Terms, maximum.  That gives other scouts an opportunity, and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.

If you are interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Blasing (either at the Troop meetings or by email: rblasing@me.com), to get the ball rolling.  If you were a Den Chief last year, you will need to again receive Scoutmaster approval, and will need to coordinate the assignment through Mr. Blasing.

For questions on an activity or event, contact the activity owner listed. As an activity owner to have your items included in the T33 Weekly blast, please submit them to Sundeep Gupta sundeep.gupta@gmail.com by 5 pm Sunday for the following week’s edition.
