Five Scouts and two adult leaders ventured to Boulder Creek Scout Reservation for a day hike that turned into a Wilderness Survival weekend!  (Actually, this was always planned, not a day hike gone awry)  They spent the afternoon building their shelters, built a fire, and had snacks. Some retired to their shelters to sleep without sleeping bags; others did so and returned to sleep by the fire. All were safe and dry, cool, and uncomfortable during the night, and arose at 6:15AM to find the fire tended and roaring. As they were about to leave, a box of donuts were thrust upon them from an open truck window. It was Brent Browning returning from a Mountain Man event and he provided a dozen donuts and donut holes! All Scouts thought it was a great time and would do it again.  Thank you to Brian Mellea, SMIC, Peter Monaco for your last minute availability, and Jian Li as the Activity Coordinator.

This Tuesday

Tomorrow evening is our first Court of Honor for the new year!  All Scouts will participate in the ceremony.  All Scouts are to wear their full Field (Class A) uniform, to include MB sash as that is the appropriate uniform for a Court of Honor.  Order of the Arrow sashes are not authorized as this is not an official OA event.

Parents – Do you know if your Scout is being presented with rank advancement or receiving some other special award?  Ask your Scout – in past ceremonies, many Scouts have com forward for rank, and a parent was not there to share it with them.  This is important that your Scout have you with them as the advance in rank.

Following the ceremony, there will be a short coordination meeting for participants of Gold Rush Adventure!, which is two weekends away.

Parents of Scouts, want to get your scouts more engaged in what is going on with troop 33?

They get them signed up to the “Members” google group so that they can explore the troop web site and receive these weekly blast messages.

Here is the easy process on how to sign up:

Questions – let me know – Peter Stanley

Ps. you can use this for additional parents to join also.

Reminder: A Call for Den-Chiefs

Mr. Chin

If you've thought of being a Den-Chief, now is the best chance to make it happen!  Our local cub scout leaders are starting to make their requests.  Last year, Troop 33 assigned over a dozen scouts to various local Packs.

If you are not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position. As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local cub scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troop.

In general, anyone who meets the following guidelines is a candidate for Den Chief:

A Boy Scout who has been approved by their ScoutMaster to serve as a Den Chief, is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.  Den Chief Training (either online, classroom, or both) is required.  There is upcoming in person training in Redwood City on September 16 from 8am - 12pm.  Info is on calendar as well as on

The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year,  Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief Services to Two terms, maximum.  That gives other scouts an opportunity, and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.

If you are interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Chin (either at the Troop meetings or by email:, to get the ball rolling.  If you were a Den Chief last year, you will need to receive ScoutMaster's approval, and will need to coordinate the assignment through Mr. Chin.
