Northern Tier High Adventure: One Spot still available!

All participants must be age 14

OR

have graduated from the 8th grade and be age 13 by the time of the trip.

Would you like to canoe the boundary waters of northern Minnesota this summer on a BSA high adventure? Learn more at the activity site or sign up now, and let Matthew Sturm, Nancy Bremeau, and/or the Scoutmasters know.

NOTE: It is no longer likely that Northern Tier will happen next summer in 2020 because of Philmont; therefore, NOW is the time to commit to a Northern Tier wilderness canoeing adventure.

NOTE #2: if you are currently signed up for Oljato 2019 but would like to do this Northern Tier trip, you will NOT be penalized for switching!

Planned trip for Summer 2019:

Trip Length: 9 days on water
Minimum time away from home: July 6th – 17th
Rough schedule: Travel on the 6th, Arrive to base 1pm on the 7th, on-water on the 8th, off-water on the 16th, travel home on the 17th.
Canoeing Adventure:
2 “sister” crews from Troop 33
Minimum of 2 adults per crew
3-6 scouts per crew
One crew will start at the Atikokan base in Ontario, Canada, and the other crew will start at the Ely, MN base. Crews will SWAP PLACES by travelling a minimum of ~130-140 miles over the water & land in the North Woods. The exact route and on-water adventure is for each crew’s scouts to decide – this is YOUR adventure. Northern Tier’s guide and the adults will offer thoughts and advice, but the plan is yours.
Cost: on par with a Philmont trip, so think ~$1,500 total!

Come help open Camp Oljato before all the scouts arrive!

On Memorial Day weekend intrepid volunteers will begin getting Camp Oljato ready for scouts, after its slumber through the winter.  This year should be exceptional given the amount of snow in the mountains. Sign up here - http://www.pacsky.org/Event.aspx?id=5912

Scouts can earn service hours.  Contact Pete/Sidney Dunten (pdunten@gmail.com) for more info if needed.

Fremont Peak Camping & Astronomy, May 11-12

Join us on a campout adventure of hiking, stargazing and conservation service at the Fremont Peak State Park in San Juan Bautista on May 11 - 12.  Scouts will hike to the Peak to enjoy the stunning panoramic view of Monterey Bay, and attend an astronomy program about the current night sky and view its starry wonders from the observatory’s 30-inch-diameter telescope.  First Year and Second Year Scouts should consider attending, this will be a great opportunity to work on basic camping skills and earn service hours. We will return on early Sunday morning to still be able to enjoy Mother's Day with families.
