  2. Merit Badge Counselor or Board of Review Member.

Activity Page Hackathon

When: Tues. Sep. 3rd, 7:45pm - 9:00pm

Where: LAUMC Creekside

We're trying something new this year - We want to get the full year's worth of Activity Pages live on our Web site from the start. This will allow scouts/adults to sign up for activities much earlier, and more importantly, it will help volunteers plan more easily and effectively - especially Activity Coordinators (ACs) and uniformed leaders (ASMs). So we're holding a "full court press" Hackathon on Sept. 3rd during the regular Troops Meeting. We need a lot of adult help on this one-time event!!! This is also a fantastic time for new ACs to learn how to create those web pages and make them live. Please join us and help.  Bring your laptop!

Yosemite Family Camping- Labor Day Weekend

Please join us this Labor Day weekend for our annual trip to Yosemite from Aug 31 to Sep 2, 2019. This year, we are camping at Tuolumne Meadows and are taking a maximum of 78 campers including families of scouts. We have a few spaces left. For those of you who have already signed up, please be sure to make your payment and fill out the consent form.

There will be mandatory planning meetings on Tuesday, Aug 20 and Aug 27 at 9pm.

This is a “family camping” event, families and siblings are welcome. Don’t miss this opportunity. See Activity Page for more details.

Please contact Alice Tong (atongsterxc@gmail.com), the AC if you have any questions.

A Call for Den-Chiefs

Alfred Chin  alfred_chin@hotmail.com

Scouts,

If you've thought of being a Den-Chief, now is the best chance to make it happen!  Our local cub scout leaders are starting to make their requests. Last year, Troop 33 assigned over a dozen scouts to various local Packs.

If you are not familiar with this Position of Responsibility (PoR), the Den Chief is a significant Leadership position. As Den Chief, you'll be working closely with the local Cub Scout Dens and Packs, supporting and helping to organize and lead their activities, setting a good example for the younger scouts, and you will be an important factor in recruiting new scouts to our Troops.

In general, anyone who meets the following guidelines is a candidate for Den Chief:

  • A Scout who has been approved by their ScoutMaster to serve as a Den Chief

  • Is 12 years or older, and ideally 1st class rank or higher.

  • Online Den Chief Training via my.scouting.org is required

The Den Chief assignment is intended to span the entire school year. Please note that we generally restrict Den Chief Services to two terms, maximum. This gives other scouts an opportunity and it encourages past Den Chiefs to pursue other PoR positions within the Troop.

Here is the link to Troop 33/4033’s page on Den Chiefs with more info on the process for obtaining PoR credit:

If you are interested in being a Den Chief this year, please contact Mr. Chin (either at the Troop meetings or by email: alfred_chin@hotmail.com), to get the ball rolling. If you were a Den Chief last year, you will need to receive ScoutMaster's approval, and will need to coordinate the assignment through Mr. Chin.

2019 JOTA (Jamboree-on-the-Air)

Nico Bremeau is helping Los Altos organize "2019 JOTA" (Jamboree-on-the-Air) October 19, 2019. JOTA uses amateur (HAM) radio to link Scouts and hams from our area, the nation, and the world and enables them to talk with each other. It requires no experience and no travel. This event is for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. In 2017 more than 1.5 million scouts participated from more than 160 countries. We're always looking for scouts and parents with HAM experience who can help with the event. If you don't have any experience, please come to have fun and learn all about it. If you’re interested, please send Nico an email (nicolas@bremeau.net)

PS. Nico is also starting a HAM radio/emergency preparedness club at LAHS this fall.
