Learn Leadership, First Aid, Field Craft, Survival

Paratus Institute focuses on preparing people to take leadership and organizing roles in primitive settings. Typically these settings are either wilderness and back country, third world work or travel, or post major disaster. We emphasize being prepared to take care of yourself, your party, and others at times and in places where first world services are either delayed or denied.

Our Courses

Students get hands-on practiceThe core of our training is Wilderness First Aid, including the philosophy, leadership skills, technical skills, and field craft necessary to make it work. Our courses are tailored to meet many standards including those set by the Wilderness Medical Society and the new Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines.

A typical Paratus Institute course combines directed reading with interactive online materials to prepare the student, followed by a hands on field exercise to extend and cement the academic learning. This blended learning approach allows us to achieve a high degree of effectiveness, efficiency (both time and money) and flexibility in most of our offerings.
